Title: Lumpy wool
Post by: lee.arron on January 22, 2012, 10:44:18 pm
thankfully not scab as my first thoughts were, but lumpy wool apparantley it can clear up spontaniously . does anyone have any methods they use to help ive shorn the affected sheep and signs of it in one of my pregnant ewes have been noticed however this late in pregnancy i want to limit my handling of her.  i still might speak with the vet about antibiotics to treat the two but im told its not effective.

Please see my post under 'Scab' having read about Dermaphilosis ( spelling ? ) I now believe that's what mine had. Vet gave anti biotics and Hibiscrub to shampoo with - Note - take it seriously I lost both of mine ! !
Thanks to this forum you can learn such a lot.

If it is lumpy wool/dermywotsit/scald it can get very serious and infection can set in. Hibiscrub is fab at stopping the itching and if its bad a long acting antibiotic is a good precaution.
Also if you can bring the sffected animals out of the weather and undercover until the wool has finished falling off and the skin is nice and clear it really does help.

Decided to  treat with dectomax on all 5 sheep as they are now all scratching vet says that its a possibility to be scab so may as well take precautions incase they get as bad as my one ewe who is now on her own and getting some extra tlc and hibiscrub washes . kicking myself i didnt notice things sooner :(

The hibiscrub will sooth it and the dectomax will kill any scab and also lice.....if they are still itching after all this in a few weeks treat with Spot on as it kills the other sort of lice that dectomax dosent....good luck
