I am looking for a V belt for a Bamford Wuffler. These are no ordinary belt , I have tried all tried all the usual belt/transmission drive firms and non can come up with one. Does anyone know of a past Bamford dealer or a firm that makes belts to order?
-
Hi Odin,
What makes it special? I know sometimes different companies use odd lengths, to try and make you buy the part from them. Is it cogged on the inside? If so then you can just replace it with a smooth one.
The company I use for belts, seals and bearings is Simply Bearings (http://www.simplybearings.co.uk) and they have a page for V belts - it's usually just a case of measuring width, height and length and they should be able to help. ( I have a suspicion I'm teaching you to suck eggs about belts though! ).
The other thing I have come across is companies using odd length belts - you can usually overcome this by taking the tensioner right out which brings it into a standard range.
Dan.

Here's the direct link to the V belt page V belts (http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/index.php?cPath=4601)

Cheers Dan for that link, I have contacted them and they are looking into it. The belt is some what exceptional in size and length, none of the bearing & belt supply firms that I have contacted can come up with anything.
Regards
Rob

I'm sorry, I can be of no use to this thread :(
However, I would love to own a Bamford Wuffler.....................even though I have no idea what one is. What a brilliant name for ........................... anything :)

If Simply Bearings can't help you out ( and I recon they will ) then if you give me the measurements I'll ring the guys I used to work with in the North West and see if they can come up with anything. :)

If you do not know what a Bamford Wuffler is, go on U Tube, I have seen one on there working on a Grey Fergy. It had to be one of the best jobs at hay time, all changed now. When I get a photo of one I will post it, but if you can find one £200 should buy a working machine, you just need a classic little tractor then, do yer want one ? :yum:
-
Thanks Odin but it would be wasted in my 3 bed semi in Birmingham.
I did google it and it seems to be a gracking machine. You learn something every day.

;D ;D
for some reason, it makes me think of the west country locals telling tales on dark, stormy nights of the 'bamford wuffler', probably prowling exmoor and waylaying unwary travellers - but that's just me.
Sorry Odin, that's no help to you either.
-
You probably bang on for West Country boyz, up ere in t'north, it would be "stick to road, or t'wuffler will 'ave yer" ! Only comes into its' own in a field.
-
I loved the name too. But ah, for wuffling. Now the penny drops :D
-
As mentioned in another post, my parents have a set of placemats with different tractors on - I went to visit them the weekend just gone, and saw this one and thought of Odin!

I think it is still run by a chap called Keith Marsh

Like it . That is how this country should be, the old farmer is even wearing his tie, thats how all the old chaps used to dress.
If you look closely at the picture it shows the belt coming from the PTO, through 90 degrees to the spoked wheel, a very long belt. :) :trophy:
-
not to sure on the belt drive it would wear out but i have a leaflet i will check :farmer:
-
just checked i don't have a leaflet on the wuffler have them on there balers and the bamford wizzler but if the artist missed out the pulley wheels for the drive belt he may be missed out some vital part on the fordson getting winched through the ford :farmer:
-
Not heard of a Wizzler , so what was that then ? Also, I've never seen any Bamford literature so that sounds both interesting and valuable. I believe that Bamford bailers and Jones bailers ended up as one and the same?
Regarding the belt at 90 degrees, it runs on big jockey wheels.
-
yes but the artist did not draw them
Jones and Allis Chalmers were the same just different paint bamford just disappeared will try the teckie ones to post
the leaflets from the early sixty's are worth a fortune some were sold on e blag for hundreds :farmer:
-
Bamford wizzler was a 4 (?) drum grass mower.
Are the old leaflets really worth a lot of money? I have a couple of boxes of original sales leaflets from late 50's and early 60's
-
what leaflets do you have ploughman yes the wizzler was a four drum turbo mower i think the first of them it says in the leaflet that the reciprocating mower had been going for 100 years must have been better made then :D :farmer:
-
Basically its an archive of all the sales leaflets from machinery exhibitors at the Smithfield show in the 50's and 60's and even some from the 70's. It was usually the job of one of the junior sales staff to visit all the competitors stands to collect all their sales literature for the design/engineering department to study. Everything from the very early direct chop 'Hurricane' type forage harvesters up to conventional balers such as Class,Hesston, Welger etc in the 70's. Has my ship come in?
-
is it just the machinery ones you have are there tractor ones as well you just cant tell till the final bid has been placed some recent sales on the net were to say the least jaw dropping i noted the prices but Lillian has cleared up very unusual for her obviously they should be in mint condition which sells better :farmer:
-
Very few if any tractor ones I think - although having said that, I have a feeling there is what must be a proof/ mock-up of the leaflet for the 'Bamford' tractor - they were going to rebadge an Eastern European tractor similar to the Ursus at one stage - I bet that one is rare?
-
never knew that it would be rare then some of the Massey supplements in farmer and stockbreeder are worth a fortune all it needs is two people wanting them and the price goes up years ago i said to a salesman friend that the collection i had was worth about £7000 the prices that they made recently i have underestimated the value :farmer:
-
I had better get in the garage in the morning ;D
-
I collected literature through the 1970s' into the 80s' with a pal. Recently he started to sell his collection on e-bay and raised a lot of money. The interesting thing is that flash cars do not get much interest and have little value, probably because every kid got their hands on them, however, agricultural, plant and HGV are rare and prices are into tens, 20s' and sometimes 50's. So if you have a collection and you start to DRIP-FEED it onto e-bay you will soon find yourself with over a hundred quid and depending what you have and how much of it, a thousand. Because I collected more agri/plant/HGV, most of it now sold by my old pal for me, I have certainly had a grand back, which I have spent on buying the real things and made work !
Hence the Wuffler, finger bar mower, bailer, ploughs and arable equip has been paid for from literature sales.
Never seen any Bamford literature.
-
i don't have the prices to hand but some of them recently were 2-3 hundred pounds each a handfull and i mean a handfull that i keep referring to made thousands on the blag
the proper ford key about 10-20 pounds and they are constantly on badges as well also sell
bamford made balers at least 3 of them roller mills and systems finger bar mowers and the wizzler
anybody remember Scottish company's wallace newlands inchgreen (they made diggers) then rare ones Bristol dutra Holden tractors fisher Humphrey's new idea gehl Allis Chalmers Jones
i did have a collection of car and hgv leaflets from the 60s through but burned them as the collection was to large if ever i had made a mistake that was it
but that is why they are making the money they were free and then chucked just where do you get the formation on these innovations of farm machinery just the same as dinky toys or train sets :farmer:

Odin, did you have any joy with the County and Bamfords spares details I posted?
-
Sorry, not received any detail ? I did try the belt firm in Leigh, Lancashire, however, they need to see the example. So I will take it over when passing that way. Where did you post the spares detail ?

Well done!

Sorry for bringing up an old thread being my first post and that but I have a query regarding County & Bamford and Keith Marsh and it's Wuffler related; and as this thread is pretty high on Google ranking I may as well make use of that too for any future queries of the same ilk.
I'm off to view a Lister Wuffler this week and the belt is at it's maximum adjustment. I've just called County and Bamford and they tell me that they don't do belts for the Wuffler any more and that Mr Marsh no longer works for them (some five years or so in fact).
Odin, was Mr Marsh ok with you calling him up out of the blue on his mobile regarding a belt for the Bamford?
The advantage with the Lister over the Bamford is that the belt is much shorter but I can't find any trace of one online; I'm very new to the whole vintage machinery scene, so could somebody kindly offer some advice as to where to look?
I have had the thought of a couple of sprockets and a chain to replace the belt/pulleys; is this sacrilege in the vintage world or a workable solution to an unobtainable part?
Many thanks
Steve

fleabay has belts every so often

Thanks for the quick response Hassle
I've been looking on there for a couple of weeks now (as it's been a few weeks of tracking down the owner of the Lister I found in a shed close to me) so sadly it's a Lister belt I need, not a Bamford - but ta anyway!
-
Sorry for a late reply but not been on the site for a while, busy playing at 'farming'.
I did phone Keith and he had the belt. However the Wuffler has gone on to the back burner as other equipment has taken precedence. I will get the Wuffler running but not for a while. :fc:
