:pig: Hi All
Well our first two boys went off to the butchers this morning, the other two go on Wednesday.
We did all the prep work yesterday - getting the trailer where we needed it and putting up the hurdles so they just had a short walk to the back of the trailer.
We got up at 5am this morning and after a coffee, wrapped up well and with torches in hand went to the boys pen. OH had chopped up a few bananas so using them as 'bait' managed to separate the four boys by luring two of them into the field and shutting the gate on them. Opened the pen door and with banana bucket in hand led the other two to the trailer - no hassle or stress whatsoever, they strolled along the short walkway and straight into the back of the trailer! It was a different story at the butchers though, they had got so comfortable they didn't want to come out! :D
We could not believe how chilled and laid back they were, we have always paid them quite a bit of attention, tummy rubs, titbits fed to them from our hands etc and they are and were an absolute pleasure to raise, which has given us more confidence as they were our first lot of pigs - but they won't be our last!
We are now hoping that it will be as easy on Wednesday for the other two and looking forward to collecting them back on Saturday (albeit in joints etc!) and having our first taste of home reared pork!
