Title: geese laying help
Post by: goosepimple on November 03, 2011, 06:20:26 pm
Help please.  Our geese still look longingly at all our Muscovy ducklings I think wondering if it is their long lost goslings from earlier this year.  When do they start to lay again?  I didn't think it was until about March but one website I read said after Christmas.  They're Steinbacher geese and are lovely (look like a pale Greylag).  Also, has anyone hatched goose eggs in an incubator before?  We intended 'pinching' some of their eggs this year and leaving them with some eggs to hatch so we have backup.  Is that a bad idea?  Thanks.  :D

Mine didn't really get going, ie frequently enough to get a clutch going, til May!

Dad hatches Chinese geese in the incubator with great success. I've never incubated the Steinbachers as they don't lay a lot of eggs and also they do a good job sitting themselves  :)

Hmmm, we had six eggs from three geese this year..... no, not per week - that's for the whole year!  Still, at 20 years old they are now getting on a bit!  ;D
