Title: Allotment advice please..........quite urgent.
Post by: knightquest on August 12, 2011, 09:53:40 pm
Just had a phone call to say that we can have an allotment WOO HOO!!!!!

My question is - we have a choice between two, assuming they are not next to each other, what should I be looking for when I go to choose?

Going tomorrow at 11.30 and I am VERY excited.  :)

Try and get one without ground elder, mares tail or other nightmare weeds!! (or the one with less of them)
Try and get the one nearer the water supply
Try and get the one away from any weak points for opportunist thefts
Try to get one with any sheds/water butt left by a previous person if thats poss

Good luck with the des res allotment viewing!

check that your not going to be digging heavy clay.

I can only add obvious things, really - not near a really weedy / gone to seedy plot, ones near about seem to grow things well.

Congratulations!  Have a lot of fun and more fabulous food than you will know how to eat or give away!

rotavating would have spread that one nicely...when you find a way of controlling it, let us all know! :&>

it's like Medusa - chop the heads off and it comes back with 10 - try digging as deep as you can and pick every single bit of root out - a near impossible task, sorry to tell you this! The roots can go really deep and tend to lodge themselves under any stones there are - and they break easily.... :( :&>

We got the allotment  8) The other one that we could have had was covered in suspect manure??? and bind weed. a very easy choice in the end. I will post pics on another thread. Thanks again for the advice.
