Title: mixing ducks??
Post by: crosser on August 01, 2011, 09:46:27 am
morning all,  we have 10 bantams and 2 runner ducks happily living together and a friend has offered us a pair of call ducks,  just wondered if these would happily live with the runners? ie.  would they share the same house?  thanks

I presume they are all female and you don't have a drake?  I introduced my SB drake to my KC girls with no problems whatsoever, but that's just natural I guess. ;D  I don't think ducks are as territorial as hens - and I've heard of other folk mixing them with no problems.  I always introduce chicken new additions last thing at night when they have gone to bed, but it's bit more difficult with ducks as they seem to stay up late! ;) ;D

the runners are a female and a drake but there only 8 weeks old so no bossy drake just yet...

I have bred 60 this year-some are going to Melton tomorrow,My regular flock has one drake Aylesbury and one Drake Call duck and there has never been a problem, even with the ducklings there is not much squabbling,I noticed the elders tend to nip and pick on the younger ones when it comes to feed time.I personally do not think you shall have a problem.

Your only problem may be that your calls may fly away.......ta ta
