Hei there people. Im hoping that someone of you pro pig keepers can give ma advice. Im thinking of purchasing some gloucester ld spot gilts about porker weight so roughly 60kgs liveweight. And what id like to now is roughly how much should i be feeding each gilt in kilos? thanks
-
Sorry can't do metric - 1lb per month of age up to 6lb per day, roughly.
-
so 2.2 pounds to the kilo so roughly 2.5 kg to 3kg per gilt daily then? correct?
-
1 lb is approx half a kilo (exactly 0.45) . You feed 1lb of food each day for each month of age, up to a maximum of 6lbs per day, otherwise all you get is extra fat. :farmer:

many thanks for that, what would be the quantity of feed daily then of gilts coming to breeign age or sows ?
-
For gilts coming to breeding age and sows until they start feeding babies
2 kilos good quality pig nuts at 16% protein per day average. Bulk out with veg, fruit and good rooting.
Once sow has given birth I increase feed over about 10 days to 2 kilso nuts per day, plus 250 grammes per piglet per day until weaning. I also feed adlib fruit and veg at this time. After 2 weeks the babies will require their own feed on top. I find this helps to stop the sow milking off her back and keeps her in good condition.
