Title: weird duck behaviour
Post by: northfifeduckling on February 12, 2009, 02:22:42 pm
This morning I had to watch our smallest and definitely female duck showing male mating behaviour towards another female. Is this part of their pecking order, I wonder? It is particularly confusing as we are still trying to establish the gender of our youngest duck- mating behaviour is obviously not as conclusive as I thought...:&>

Yes, I think it's a dominance issue.  I've seen mine do that too.  My pack is fairly settled now though - 3 girls and a boy, before I had an equal number of girls and boys which is not good news for KC drakes! ;D ;D ;D

We've got 5 (or 6) girls and 2 (or 3) boys. The 2 boys seem to be quite content with each other, I've never noticed one giving the other a hard time. But this little duck quite puzzled me ( she's the size of a call duck!) on top of the much larger K Campbell girl, definitely trying to be a boy! Someone had a thread on this forum a while back, I think, asking if his ducks were gay (I laughed at that at the time...) :&>
