I know what you mean, pigs have to be on showground by 9am for Driffield next week which means we'll need to leave home at 7am so the other piggies & dog will be getting an early awakening for breakfast!! ;D same again when we go to Penistone.
Look forward to seeing you there

Driffield tomorrow so we will be mainly bathing Clover & Trixie this afternoon in gallons of warm water & Johnson's baby shampoo(we should have shares!!), then its packing up the truck for an early start tomorrow morning.
Sounds like the weather is going to be iffy so waterproofs all round!

Went to Ripley last Sunday and poor Clover was pounced on by a very nasty OSB, poor Clover was very shook up and at least had the sense to run away to the other side of the show ring, has a couple of nasty bites on her neck! Bit swollen but healing.
Will be at Egton show next week, so hope she has a better time should be a good day out. Fingers crossed for nice weather.

Well thats the show season over for another year.
Its been lovely to meet some of you (Cinderhills & PennineHilly Billy yesterday at Nidderdale) and we hope we've educated a few people about smallholding/pig keeping. Even nearly had two vegetarians converted yesterday! And we had a channel 4 film crew and Kirstie Allsopp learning to show GOS pigs too so all good fun.
We look forward to meeting more of you next year.

Don't know the name of the programme but will be aired on C4 around 30th Nov.
We haven't had that good a year pig wise, our Januaries weren't good enough to show so we've taken the older girls who've managed a few seconds & thirds and one first at Egton (not many pigs there!) so really its been a learning year. Hopefully Clover is full of some good Januaries and we already have a decent looking July coming thro so fingers crossed. We love going to the shows, it hard work but rewarding, we meet some great folk and its good for my 9yr old niece as she's quite a shy wee thing, going showing means she had to talk to people & judges and learn how to socialise. She got first prize yesterday in the children's classes with her chocolate cakes. :trophy:
All in all not a bad year.  :)

It was lovely to meet you too.  Congrats to your niece.

The Yorkshire Post says filming was for "Kirstie's Handmade Britain" programme.

I'll make a note on my calendar.  I did like her Homemade Home series so really want to watch this.

Good to meet you Mandy, shame I couldn't see your OSB's but the piglets were cute!  Looking forward to seeing the TV programme, I kept seeing cameras and microphones round the show, were there others filming or did you only see 'Kirsty's gang'?
It's quite a few years since I've managed to get to Nidderdale show, I hoped to see more 'farmers'  :farmer: stands, not the number of clothes/sweeties/hog roast stands that seem to outnumber the useful type :(
congrats to your neice, there were some very good entries in the classes.
Maybe somebody can remind us if they see Kirstys programme in the TV listings?

I've put a note in my diary to remind myself so i'll post when its on!
We only saw Kirsty's lot but the Yorkshire post crew were doing the rounds too.
Know what you mean about the stands shows are getting more and more like general markets as agricultural companies go to the more specialised shows like LAMMA, cereals & grass&muck etc. Also alot of them have had their entertaining budgets slashed.
We got a mention in the Northern Echo!

I managed to drag BH to North Sheep this year and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.  Real agricultural stands, lots of educational and interesting stuff as well as many breeds of sheep on show with knowledgeable people to talk about them.  Mind, if you wanted to buy a wax jacket or pair of wellies you wouldn't have had a great deal of choice - but you could have got some.

What a lot of celebrities we had on telly this week!

So - were those your pigs, and your daughter, Mandy?

No they're not my pigs and the young lady is not my daughter though i would be very proud if she were. Her name is Sarah Whitley and she hales from Harrogate and she is up & coming in the GOS world and did very well during last years show season. She is a lovely girl and its the 2nd time she's been mistaken for my daughter as we go around a lot together at the shows, i keep an eye on her if her mum & dad are busy with other stuff (they have a jersey cow milk ice cream business google Birchfield ice cream) Lat year Sarah and my niece Anya and i were all sat underneath a waterproof shelter hiding from the rain when a member of the public stuck their head under and said oh girls you and your mum look nice and dry, needless to say Sarah & Anya fell about laughing, its because we're all blonde with ponytails and all have spotty pigs!  I don't have any children of my own so i enjoy these two's company.
