Title: Registered Berkshire gilts for sale - Central Scotland
Post by: HappyHippy on June 09, 2011, 10:37:12 am
What with deciding to take on a couple more Large Blacks ( ::) blame Bruce !) I'm toying with the idea of selling my Berkshire gilts :o
Both gilts are from the Lunan Excelsa line, sired by Peter Lad. Date of birth 11-8-10, 10 months old and ready to breed (one has been AI'd within the last 2 weeks, so may be in-pig already) This same gilt won 3rd place in Best in Show at Lesmahagow Agricultural show, she's a pretty little pig and they both have good natures (though not quite as nice as the Kune Kunes  ;)) They're both well socialised, used to travelling and really easy to handle - fully up to date with worming and erysepilas vaccines.
I won't sell them singley unless you already have pigs and would prefer them to go together.
Delivery may be possible or we're located in Lesmahagow if you want to come and see them. I'd like £350 each, but I am realistic - so please get in touch if you're interested  ;)
Thanks, Karen

Don't wish to appear rude but I think you are way off with your prices. I have bought placed show gilts in pig for 2/3 of that price. :o

Thanks for your reply BB
I have to admit to not having sold breeding age gilts before  :-[

I was basing the price on how much money and time it's taken to get them to this age & stage. That's why I said I'd like £350 - I'm open to negotiation (and bribery ;D)
So based on your experience would you say £200-£220 is more the right sort of ballpark and a more realistic price ?
I'm not desperate to get them away (but it would save me having to do more fencing ;)) so definately don't want to lose lots of money on them  ??? I'd rather eat them  :o ;)

Hi HH,
Yes I would expect to get or pay £200-£230 for a nice gilt in pig. I was looking at one the other week that had won best of breed and was for sale in pig for £330 but she was a very good pig and her mother was a winner as well the year before.
Trouble is you might only get one good one in a litter and grow it on for 9 months get it in pig and the £350 you want is in reality a good and fair price but very difficult to get unless you have something special. :)
