Title: Who Has Snow?
Post by: Rhyan & Melissa on February 02, 2009, 06:26:56 am
Morning!

We woke up to a fair dusting this morning. Melissa has to stay home because all trains to London have be cancelled and London has ground to a standstill (gotta love England - can't cope with any weather!!).

So we are in Lincs and have maybe 10cm.

What have you woken up to?

Ive just seen that the normal roads in  yorkshire are closed -i love marsden area near huddersfield and the snakepass across the a628 to holmfirth and manchester. For those not familiar to the  area these are such beautiful  areas. They always have there roads closed at the  hint of any bad weather and thats the case this morning. Holmfirth (home of last of the summer wine) reached  from these roads -Im sure it must be incredibly beautiful there this morning.

We've had some - a fair dusting, I think. But the sun is out, the sky is blue, there's not a cloud... Actually there are clouds over the hills so I suspect there's more to come.

The roads and the garden have a covering and my partner has gone off to Glasgow on his bike!!! The sun is out so some good photo oppertunities, I have never built a snowman, I give up as I get too cold, you realy need little people around to help as they will stay out until they get Hypothermia...

A fair dusting up here in Fife, too. Not enough for a snow man yet! It's on and off, but fairly cold. If there's more to come we better get the car out of the drive or we'll be stuck. Good to know the freezer is stocked up, let's just hope the power stays with us, so we can cook something!

We have about 7" here in East Sussex, with a bit of drifting. Started yesterday afternoon, and continued through the night. All schools are closed  ::) roads are chaos, not that i've been out. The only tracks on our lane are where I've led the horse's out  ;D and mine and the dogs footprints. Not had this much snow for 12 years,  it's still falling and more is forecast. Now where did I put that sledge  8)

We have snow in Cheshire and still falling. Managed to get out in 4X4 as we live on a track much to the disgust of the children  ;D I don't know if I will manage it tomorrow as the forcast is for much more and our lane gets worse the more that vehicles drive over it. We are suppost to have an oil delivery on Wednesday but I can't see that happening. Still, we are prepared - well stocked with animal and human food as well as fuel.

I'm most upset cause we've hardly got any !  :-[

About 2inches, but all the roads are clear and it's business as usual.
I'm hoping for lots more today and overnight so I've got a valid reason for not having to go to work !  ;D  and stay home building snowmen with the kids.

Do feel sorry for all the people who aren't used to it and having so many problems, but to someone who has grown up with bad winters (here in Lanark and up in Fyvie, Aberdeen) it is slightly amusing to watch all the chaos down south.

I woke up to a very pretty garden!  But it meant that I can't get the car up the slope on our lane to go shopping in Stirling with my daughter. ::) ::)  She says the forecast is heavy rain tomorrow then heavy snow on Wednesday - Hmm, not sure I believe that!  Just off out to play snow fights with the little dogs, big girl has had her walk through the fields.

Found this weather site - looks fairly accurate

It is meant to be on it's way to us though !!!! oh how I hate snow......2.5 mile walk (each way) in whatever falls , so could do without any ....but it doesn't look good...lol . With luck , it will only be around a day or so ...fingers crossed .....roll on spring

Got about 4" at 4pm in Blairgowrie, Perthshire.... though we started the day with a mere inch. Living where you work does have it's drawbacks.... Couldn't claim the car was stuck, seeing as works a 20metre walk away!!  >:(

Heavy snow showers on and off, but from what I hear the worst is yet to come.....tonight and tomorrow.

Built my first snow man by 10am.... and the dog loves the snow...see below!

Love the pic johnmac!  We had a light dusting in Worcestershire this morning, and then gradually got more and more during the day - there's now about a couple of inches and we are forcast to get more tonight.  Temperature has struggled to get above freezing all day so I guess we will have icy roads tomorrow - deep joy!

Love the photo, I had an ALsation years ago, she was very sweet and worried over everything. I took my dog's to a local woods as I thought it a bit more sheltered and it was great to see the foot prints of things that had been there before, I also made some snow balls and threw them, my Lab was confused as they disapeared before she could return them!!!!!

Been wet and cold here today - snowed a few times but too wet to make any difference - I want totake the german shepherd for a nice along the riverside in the morning if we get a good covering overnight - Its on the cards so we see.

London does seem to been in chaos from the news - no buses or trains - Sounds like they have what many of us rural folks are use to all the time !! ;D

A reasonable covering here in Barton - I am lucky enough to be working at one of the schools that DIDN'T close ...so been coping with over-excited teenagers all day!!

Yes, all gone here although last night was funny, I went out and bought some stuff for tea and a sardine treat for my chickens as it was cold, I then made our tea and went of to do some work and my partner said that the chikens had been in our main garden as there were foot prints everywhere, they are usulay in the top part of the garden but the gate must have swung loose.  I went out with my torch to find them huddled under a small plant so I tucked them back up in there hutch and run but it was funny to see where they had been, that's what I like about fresh snow, you can tell who walked on it before you, reminds me of my older brothers I SPY books :chook: :chook: :chook:

It's not all gone here and our lane is still covered.  Should be going to Glasgow today but a bit wary in case it turns bad again as forecast, before I get home. Think I'll maybe call off till next week.

That would have been a classic You Tube film or Photo, I had something similar a few years ago when I had a little Patterdale, I found him with his head stuck in a plastic container that did contain dog treats, he was all steamed up and he looked like a spaceman, Bless, made me more watchful over whats about, don't think my lab would get her head stuck, it's too big to get into anything.

When Belle had her puppies in August I gave her a cream carton to lick while she was feeding her one week old babies. Went back 10 minutes later to find the bitch pup with her head firmly inside the carton with barely enough room for air to get in.  She took the hugest gulp of air when I pulled her out!  Won't do that again! :o

hehehe - he had no way of breathing - he is a complete horror but beautiful cat - named him bullitt - hes so fast up the stairs in two leaps - he is in control of the 5 year old 50 kilo german shepherd- he attacks the dog all day long - swings on his tail-claws his face - pushes off the chair when he wants to sit and to humans people say - aww what a pretty beautiful cat?? no not at all -move you hand and he runs and claws and bites yah arm -i have never known a cat like this - 5 months and completly out of control. Love him of course but i wish he would quieten down -maybe when hes had the snip- his mother ran away apperently and  endedup preg to a wild cat - guess thats what its all about - ----

In our corner of Lincolnshire we had quite a bit of snow on Monday but most of it has melted now. Still darn cold though! The chickens and goats are not impressed and are staying in their respective houses mostly. Even our (supposedly) feral cats have been huddled in the utility room rather than be outside - they should be out doing what we keep them for, catching mice and rats! More snow forecast this week, but I haven't checked if it is going to hit us here.

hehe- im sure no mice or rats or anything would have a chance on earth if this little horror bag of a cats was released into the big wide world - i think he would just run and run to be honest and not return. Its so tempting to let him out hehe - butter would not melt in his mouth and he lays here strectched out on the sofa . prepare to be sucked into hisconfidence not ..... ;D

It's coming down heavily here in Fife, 2 hours earlier than predicted and it is supposedly staying like this for the next few days and over the weekend...it doesn't look like I'll be able to get into town to buy these fruit trees at Lidl - we can only hope the power stays on!

This morning is very tricky under foot -nearly went over a few times in a 5 minute walk - no chance taking the German shepherd for the walk today-if he sees another dog that would be it - would be on my posterior before you could say jack sparrow

I couldn't get out yesterday! I hope they still have some of the varieties left I was planning to get when I have gritted and shovelled the drive free hopefully this afternoon. I was hoping for the thaw, but it was so cold this morning, all the birds' water bowls have completely frozen solid - should have remembered to empty them last night lol

I'm still without snow  :-[ much to my disgust !
Normally, because we're so high (over 1000ft above sea level) at the mere mention of snow showers on high ground we get snowed in.
But this year it's just not happening ! I only have 1 more week at work before my maternity leave starts and I'm just soooo desperate to be able to phone my boss and say sorry I'll have to take the week off - I'm snowed in. But alas, it's just not to be - I guess there's just no rest for the wicked  ;)

To day wile driving to town  some fellow thought the road belonged to him as he past me i had to move over to the side of the road but i moved to far over and  you can guess what happen  2 wheels in the ditch we have so much snow that  the snow plow has to  push the snow to far  over the bank and is hard to judge where the ditch is

We have had about 4 inches again overnight, a total of around 12-15 inches now.  We have dug ourselves out every morning now and make a path so we can get to the chickens.  We are very exposed where we are and with the wind the snow tends to drift also.  It was about 3ft down our track where it had drifted.
I am having trouble keeping warm today.  I have not done much all day,  just made another batch of marmalade, this time with Vodka, my other batch was with Isla Whisky, don't eat croissants and drive in a morning.
Just sorting out paper work now in the office as I have just closed down my soap company as sales have been non existent for 4-5 months now.  Credit crunch I assume.
Keep warm and I hope we don't get too much of it, but I agree with you all that it does look very nice, but i am dreading the thaw where will all the water go??????????????
