Title: if i make double the quantity of wine, do i need double the quantity of yeast?
Post by: egglady on May 03, 2011, 09:34:25 pm
making 2 gallons of wine (dandelion) to fill 2 demijohns and just making up the yeast as per instructions.  I am using a sachet of wine yeast - do i need to use 2?

kind of thinking that i might not need to but just want to check - thanks

The sachets that I have do more than just two gallons - the instructions on the back say 1 teaspoon per demijohn.

If you are making it in 2 demijohns then put 1 tsp in each, if you're making it up as a 2 gallon lot then 1 tsp is ok.  The yeast multiplies by feeding on the sugar so it's really not nessesary to put in too much. I still only use 1 tsp in a 5 gallon batch.
