Post by: deepinthewoods on April 22, 2011, 09:41:29 pm
ive just found a rhododendron sinogrande x mackabeanum seedling, its about a foot tall,  and wondered if anyone can tell me how hardy it is, info on t'interweb is unclear. i could pot it up and move it inside when really cold, or do i risk it outside in a sheltered spot? thanks d

it  should be hardy in a sheltered place.
Just how far North are you?!

It'll grow (potentially) to around 10 meters in 10 years ... you'll need a big pot!

im in cornwall so not at all North :o  i know some rhodys are very hardy but know this isnt one of them so
i think ill grow it on in a pot for a couple of years and then plant it out with some fleece protection for its first few outdoor winters. what do you reckon? thanks d

Rhodos, I find are temperamental littles s**s -some grow almost anywhere & others just die on you!
good luck with it...            :)
