Title: Very sick pig - urgent
Post by: craiglockwood on April 16, 2011, 08:38:36 am
Just returned from feeding pigs and one of them is lying on his belly, looks as though he is struggling to breath, his yes look droopy and he has a white mucus/foam all around his snout.

The VET is unreachable until 9am - anything I can do until then?

Hi Craig, sorry this reply is a bit late. I'd say get him to drink (or pour water into his mouth) and keep him shaded. It sounds like dehydration but this may be masking the symptoms of something else.
Hope you've managed to get the vet now, keep us up to date with going's on.
Sending all the positive energy I can to you

Thank you Karen.

The vet has just left - the pig was skipping around the garden by the time she arrived!  The pig must have heard me on the phone to the vet and decided she didn't want to be stuck with a needle!

Anyways, I am £90 lighter but the pig seems to be fine.

Ouch! 90 pounds lighter. Not nice. >:(
I hope you got the Vet to supply you with a 20ml syringe and a 1 and a half inch needle for next time.
Wave this infront of your pig and this will save you the cost of getting the Vet out next time round! ;D ;D ;D

He must have been interested in the girl next door and so hence the foam around his  snout.

Sorry I'm seeing this so late - what did the vet say? Not sure what this could have been (maybe symptoms suggest the aftermath of a fight and he was just knackered after coming off worse?)
Not much help with this one, but if you get problems in future and you can't get your vet out, give me a ring and I'll come over if I can. You've got my number. Hope all goes okay now.
