Title: What a Relief - Twins after Prolapse
Post by: supplies for smallholders on February 21, 2011, 07:22:42 pm
Hi,

Two weeks ago one of our Suffolk Ewes had a pre-lambing prolapse, about the size of a small melon.

Washed it gently in warm water and mild antiseptic and gently eased it back in with the cupped palm of my hand.

inserted and attached a Prolapse spoon and hoped for the best.

Last night she started in labour so I carefully removed the spoon and crossed my fingers.

Early this morning she produced two healthy bouncy lambs without any trouble and no re-occurance of the prolapse.

Phew !

Congrats you have been very lucky. I have one sheep that is so big she only manages to walk if her belly gets up momentum and another that is also really big and prefers just to lie down most of the time just worried about the lambs being very large

really happy to hear of your success-I'm pretty scared of lambing this year and all I've read seems difficult on how to reinsert prolapse :)

Hi,

It looks like this : https://www.suppliesforsmallholders.co.uk/uteri-support-p-118.html (https://www.suppliesforsmallholders.co.uk/uteri-support-p-118.html)

It has small ties on the side to tie to the wool to keep it in place, or even better tie to a harness with baler twine or something like.

Thanks
