We spent a merry half hour and a bale of straw getting the tractor up the field today. ALthough its a 4wd with diff locks we have grass tyres to limit the damage to the ground. Trouble is it limits the grip too so all four wheels were just clagged up and gently rotating.
What tyre does everyone else use? Would it be worth having conventional tyres on the front say?

standard rear tractor tyres are all with the v shaped grip pattern, here comes the bad news they cost a bomb, because of the cost of oil/ plus vat going up. Just bought 2 new rears for a fordson major im doing up and it was a struggle to get tyres under £200 each. thats not including tubes vat or fitting. so if your only needing them for farm duties and not much road work go for second hand although even used tyres have shot up in price. tractor tyre prices are currently still increasing per week. good luck hope i havent been to negative!!!!!!!!!

you need proper tractor tread tyres on the rear, maybe costly but worth it.

proper tractor tyres all round iv found there best when half warn though if you dont want to make a mess new is good for grip but can dig in when you down need them too so maybe try find a cheap half worn set also to narow and thay make a mess and to wide and they dont grip so something inbetween size depends on the tractor

I got the 4wd tractor because the 2wd Massey was also bogging down in the same area even with 80% tyres and diff lock. With turf tyres this one is still grippier than the MF.
For the moment we're keeping off the ground and have created a temporary muck heap a bit too near the house until it all dries out a bit.

sounds a bit like you are trying o get on the ground when its too wet then anyway nothing worse that rutted feilds many farmers say if you need to use 4wd with a empty tractor going across a feild you shouldnt be in the feild. :farmer:
