Title: Holly from cuttings
Post by: rlucas on December 04, 2008, 02:28:09 pm
I'd appreciate some advice on the best way to get holly cuttings going for a planned hedge.

Thanks

I don't know about taking cuttings from Holly but they are really easy to propagate by layering. All you need is to stake a branch down into the soil and next year it will be rooted. Quicker if you cut about 1/4 way into the branch where it is pegged to the ground. ours do this naturally and spread right round the garden borders. I have spent most of this year cutting them down - great firewood too

Thanks for that - I hadn't thought of trying layers!
