Title: What's on your Christmas list?
Post by: Rosemary on December 03, 2008, 09:05:50 pm
Come on, it's that time again. So what's on YOUR Christmas list?

We  are all a bit short of money at the moment so anything is great but if I could have a wish for something materialistic it would be a Landrover defender either Dark Blue or Green, good engine and body work but not too posh so I can treat it rough, otherwise, I could do with some bits for the garden and would love a gavanised chicken feeder trough and drinker and maybe a better shed, hang on, now I can think of loads of stuff but thats greedy.....I hope to get a nice fun time with my family. Happy Christmas from Sandy

Well, at long last I will be able to spend Christmas with both my kids for the first time since my daughter was married 13 years ago.  So anything else is a bonus.  But .....................

DS Brain trainer

Somebody to wave a magic wand to get the Club books finished in time for audit

ditto Choir Gift Aid

ditto my Christmas cards in time for posting

ditto my Christmas presents for everyone else.

and lastly a lesson on how to cook a turkey as I'll be doing it for the first time ever this year (always done by my Mum or Grandma, or we went out, or had caterers in before)

If there is a Fairy Godmother out there who can wave her magic wand for me, ideally just over a couple of things for me, I am not really greedy.
For Christmas I would like to see my 3 daughters & co and especially my 2 1/2 year old grandson, but if thats not possible I would like my drainage path finished at the side of my veggie garden, the paths finished in my veggie garden, the  bed dug over for my Quince trees ready to go in, the patio at the other side of my front door built etc to match the one under the dining room window, the log store tin sheeting painted so we cannot see the rust, the drainage path at the back of the house so that does not get too flooded.
But if thats not possible I would just like to spend the day with my hubby in the front of the open fire in the lounge enjoying ourselves on  our own, we tend to play rude games with Scrabble and the forfeits if you loose, well I will leave that to your imagination!!! (We don't watch too much TV at Xmas) Like everyone else on this site we still have animals to look after as well.
Oh by the way I am working Christmas morning so I won't be home till 2pm ish, I work in the kitchen in a nursing home and I have to cook them their dinner first before I get home to do mine, and I am working Boxing afternoon as well. It's a nuisence when your working days are Thursday & Friday.

After reading all the other posts I got to thinking, ever since I had my first child 34 years ago, I have always cooked Christmas dinner, last year was a joint effort with in laws and family but I did my bit then the previouse year I went to my family in England and stayed with my partner in my Ex Husbands house and ended up cooking ALL the christmas dinner. starring a home grown Turkey for :-my three daughters, their partners, their children, my Ex and his partner and of course my partner..a very strange feeling to be back in my marital home cooking for everyone and NOT arguing with my Ex, especialy after 14 years!!!!! This year I am there again but I think my daughter and son in law are in charge of the food, I will help and my Ex;s partner will be off on her holidays somewhere hot!!!!

A long lie in!! I hate getting up in the dark!

And a break in the rain during the Christmas period, just so we can attend to the animals and we all stay dry, including them.

My needs are few, but if I get those two things, I really will have a Happy Christmas!!

I am going over to UK the weekend before Christmas to see my two Grandsons and my daughters, so that will be the icing on my Christmas cake for me.  Just Perfect!!

My hubby and I (sounds like the Queens speech), we have said that we can only afford to spend around £25-30 on each other this year, we have had a bad year, we had a funeral to pay for and my dear (not) brother in law left us in debt by taking Stuarts identity before he took his own life. This has left us up S**t creek without a paddle so to speak.  I have made all my family homemade hampers this year with biscuits etc in them.  I have bought Harrison a toy and books etc that is the only gift so far.  I have made my own Xmas pud and cake and mincemeat this year, the first time ever, the mince tastes lovely. I also made my neighbour a Xmas pud and cake and he loves my homemeade fruit loaf, so I will make him one as well. He has been really helpful to us as he is a builder renovating the steading next to our farmhouse, so a little gift like that means all the world to him as he is on his own.
I generally hate New Years eve (as I actually feel older then than on my Birthday, sounds daft doesn't it) but this year I am actually looking forward to it so I can put 2008 behind me and look forward to a better one next year, plus also part of my family are coming up for a few days, weather pending and it will be lovely to see them so we can all put 2008 behind us.
Any one else looking forward to saying Good Bye to 2008????

.....didn't you get the email?  Christmas is cancelled this year due to lack of interest!!!

But,if I have to say what I want,it would be enough Calvados brandy to keep me in a drink induced coma for two weeks, and to wake up when it's all over and done with and I can look forward to buying Easter Eggs.

I think your friends and family are really lucky - the most precious thing you can give is your time.  Money and bought gifts can be given by anyone who has it but only you can give your time - by making all these lovely foods and making up the hampers.  I would be delighted to receive something like that.  I hope our local smallholdersd enjoy the cake I am bringing to the AGM next week ;)

:D Thank you Annie!  My Reee is a real hum-bug lol.  I am not expecting twinkle lights, a tree, or ought  :P Can you believe it? He is not even tempted by the ritual of making paper-chains  ;D  My suspicion is that he is either the troubled messiah, or a very naughty boy!! Oh, almost forgot....my wishes are; to breath in the crisp Norman air, watch the drama of each sunset within the warmth from my most special fireplace and behind my kitchen window, then to gaze at the blanket of stars which follow.  To dress up warm (for me it includes having a resmeblance to the michelen man!!) and walk our doglets with the man whom I adore. To be quiet, removed from the hassles of the race in the UK, to listen to the wind in the trees and the nature that surrounds us. Mostly, my wish is to be close to the man i continually strive to love better. Ree, you are my unique, most sexilicious, beloved, and I am bound to you.

Carly, I used to have a 'grumpy old man' too (well, actually two :() - that's the one thing I would wish for that I know I just can't have.  To have either one of them back. (in fact if they got on well together, both of them would be good to have back again ;) )You and Ree are very lucky, make the most of it. Happy Christmas

i think x-mass should be cancelled! i really dont have the patience for the normal arguments, snide comments, people stealing my x-mass present ideas and passing them off as their own, my nan telling us all how she wont be around this time next year, the rubbish on the tv, burnt potatoes (every bloody year!) dry cold rank turkey (im gagging already!) and everyone smiling through gritted teeth and pretending we like each other while trying desperatley to drink until we fall asleap! and then my nan and mum will force us to play cards so they can fleece us! and this year to make things even better im playing taxi so i cant even drink myself into a state of happiness oh and my other half is working so i wont get to see him either! and im skint... spent all last weekend making pickled bloody limes (start these 24 hours before cooking!) and garlic, after locking myself in the kitchen (the door handle broke!) and gassing myself (and my sister who had her head out the window it was so bad) with boiling cider vinegar i got everything into jars lent behind them to get something and smash, ive got one jar of pickled garlic left, at least the floor smells nice now i suppose! normally i love x-mass and am excited from about october and have all presents brought and wrapped by the end of november but if i could have one thing this year it would be for me and my oh to be anywhere but here! hopefully (if things work out right) this time next year we will have moved away and be in solitary bliss together!  ;D

mmmmm .. sounds like a normal sort of day to me really..... ;D ::) If anything can go wrong it WILL go wrong....If anything ever goes right with me , I always think ...something must be wrong!!!!!  ::) I hate what christmas has become , the actual event is fine (although I am not religious) , it is just the crazy, insane commercialism that has built around it nowdays. Oh and I don't like all those people, that you avoid all year, popping up all smiley and saying Happy Christmas. Oh and I don't like all the plastic cr*p decorations or the lights people stick all over the place .  Oh and .........errrrm I think I just don't like Christmas FULL STOP.......

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE .........

We dont celebrate Xmas.  Normal day unless the kids come across.  This year they are all with other people.  No turkey, no lights, no holly, no tv.  Peace.  Had 31 years of living for other people now its our turn.

Oh, lordy. When I started this thread I expected little gift lists!

I love Christmas - I love having time to spend with our family (which is small but nicely put together), to relax, walk the dogs together, ride my horse, eat nice food, meet up with friends (some of whom we won't have seen since last year), catch up with others via letters in Christmas cards. I love to reflect on the year that's past and look forward to the next one. I love going to church through Advent and to the watchnight service.

Oh, and if anyone's interested I'd really like a DVD of "The Magnificent Seven" and the new Take That album.

Rosemary previous Xmases spent negotiating who was going to spend Xmas with whom, only to have it all changed at last minute because one particularly obnoxious sibling would change things just because he could.  Then there were the inlaws, which day would they come?  How long before father in law started to complain about the kids, too much money spent on them, too noisy, etc.  he would comandeer the television and the lounge;  Kids would want to watch their films, OH would want to listen to music.   Mother in law was too quiet to have an opinion.  Me in the kitchen with the cooking sherry (I hate sherry).   Now just peace and quiet and Hilary and co.  Wonderful.

But have a happy xmas and hope you get the Mag.7 dvd.

I love Christmas, but sadly this year by ourselves. Son entertaining her Mother. My Mum going to my Sisters and there is us stuck here as no one to look after the place. Have a 15 1/2 year old collie who needs injections twice a day. Starting to get very smelly, only bath her when really bad but she is still plodding around.Three other collies one of those is 13 and one more or less blind from birth, cat and other livestock.

We will have the full Christmas dinner this year, but we can have it when we want and don't have to be on best behaviour with Mother in law as she is going to one of her daughters this year (the first time in about 20+ years) Mum in law 89 in March.

I told my Husband that I wanted a new flat screen telly for the kitchen along with DVD recorder ;D ;D ;D
It will be interesting to see what I get probably something completely different, but I will be grateful for what ever it is.

If I had to choose a material thing, it would be a pretty pink girly phone that takes photographs!

Both my daughters have really lovely girly phones that do everything but the washing up or should I say load the dishwasher!  I am a bit of technophobic when it comes to electrical and computery things, but if I could just have that one thing, and look the part it would make my day!!!  I have one of those really old bog standard ones in a dirty blue that plays that horrible Vodaphone tone. Not girly at all.   I am rubbish, but I just want that dainty little something to flick out of my handback when I call myself with the other phone!!

Oh yes and it must be able to download Take That as my ring tone!

Generally I have never really been a 'pink' person, but I did have a pink phone  once.  I have a pink mop, a pink dog whistle, a pink lanyard for it, pink socks, pink gloves, a pink scarf, and pink bedding.  This leopard would appear to have changed it's spots.  It has also just showered the ergo keyboard as I dropped some honey on it and it was really sticky and am using an old fashioned one till it dries.  Hope that's soon. ;)  Neither of them is pink but that's not a bad idea - I wonder if you can get them. Must google that! ;D

After seeing latest photo of myself, I am going to change my wish list, I carn't change fate or bring people luck and health although working and walking on the land certainly aids y our health, so, I am going to be realy selfish and wish for a total makeover, I may start on myself as I haven't de fluffed myself for months, I may feel the cold more when I do, I also could do with a good harid do, a bit of plastic surgery, not too drastic, teeth sorting to give me that Ester smile and a complete change of wardrobe and of course an expert makeup artist to colour me in. I am not bothered usualy but I am visiting family over Christmas and they will think I have changed into a wild country women and I haven't, I am quiet content the way I am living my life but when going back to a place where the way I looked was priority over my life quality, I think I had better make a bit of effort.....SO, a total makeover for me please. It sounds as though we all have a really tough year. I am really looking forward to saying good bye to this year as we have had a really bad year.  On the plus side, my parents, auntie, sister and partner are all coming up for new year,so I will be celebrating then.
On another really BIG ;D ;D plus I am flying down to Gatwick from Aberdeen next friday morning and also coming back in the same evening, long day, I am going down to see my eldest daughter's passing out parade for the Police in Kent, she does not know that I am going, her partner has got me a ticket , she thinks that I am working, I want to see her face and to see her in her new police uniform,  I will see my grandson a week early for christmas and give him his present early, plus also it is my mothers birthday that day.
I work in a nursing home part time so I have to work xmas morning and boxing afternoon, so my xmas will be short but spent with my hubby, dogs, cat and chucks.
To see my Grandson Harrison, will the best Xmas present for me, I adore him and miss him terribly living up here so far away from them,

Rosemary I hope you get Take That and the DVD, I love Take That also, I never thought to ask for that for xmas, maybe I will get it my self afterwards. I have asked for the River Cottage diary, Carol Klein's cook book and the Mama Mia DVD.  That should come to around the £30.00 mark which is the amount we set for each
other.

I have been busy making some fudge also to go into my hampers, it did not turn out quite right, but nice tasting, I will have another bash at the weekend.

Elaine

I think my total makeover would come to muchmore than £30 and like you, I realy miss my three daughters thier partners and my 5 grandchildren, it's the only downside to living so far away, my eldest is in Austrailia with her two daughters I last saw them two years ago, they are staying with me for next Christmas so something great to look forward to, this year I will stay with my other two daughters and my three grandchildren in Leicestershire, one dughter keeps lot's of animals and I expect to be sampleing some of her home grown pork....I would love them all to live near me hear as at the moment, I enjoy Scotland too much to move back into suberbia!!!

What I'd love most for Christmas is to spend it with my sister. She's in Southport with her husband, two sons and five granchildren now but since she got married in 1967, she's never had Christmas here. Our Dad was always sad about that, 'cos he never got to see his grandsons on Christmas morning.

If I could afford it, I'd love to rent a big house somewhere in between us so that Dand's family and mine could have Christmas together.

Of course, it could all turn into a huge barney and we'd never speak to each other again, so maybe its better being a dream.

One year for Christmas I rented a big house in Devon and had all families together and it was great, we all put money in for food although I tood a fair bit with us and paid for the accomadation which was costly, then we all went to the supermarket and bought the necessary food and all had our cooking tasks which worked out very well, men made Christmas Breakfast and girls christmas lunch and NO arguments, we decorated the house with decorations we made from paper, ie paper chains etc and cut some greenery and a small tree, my partner and son in law went shooting and bagged a minute duck that we had trouble dividing and my daughter and her husband went mountain biking, we had a huge scale electric that we played on plus a male room where they could smoke things"""" and a nice female room for chat, mags, babies to play and childrens films, the whole thing was great as the house was everyones and we did have a brilliant time, I realy recomend it but it is costly. I did the same in the summer a couple of times when we cooked home caught fish etc  but then I ran out of money, my idea for this house was to do the same, in the future I will as I love the local area...roll on that day.

Hear, Hear.  Another good thing they've done is start up the local small holders association with the other main men and women, Andrew & Janis, Carol and Graham, and all the rest of them.  I've been made most welcome since moving down to the Central Belt in April from the Frozen North.  This forum and all of you have contributed to my feeling of having 'come home'.  Thank you everyone.
