Title: Injured toe
Post by: wayfarer on January 11, 2021, 01:56:19 pm
One of my chickens appears to have lost a toenail.  we noticed her limping a couple of days ago and sprayed with purple spray.  Today the foot was still sore (she was standing on one leg) and gave the foot a wash in warm water to remove all the loose mud etc.  She was tender in the area and the brown areas felt softish.  I sprayed with Savlon dry antiseptic which is a sort of iodine.  Any other suggestions for how to treat it?

She should recover pretty quickly but if it still seems sore in a day or so then repeat the washing and spraying.  It's also quite tricky to keep the affected area clean if she is still in the pen with the other chickens so I think you've done all you can for now. Just keep an eye on it. Losing a claw won't affect her long term.
