Title: Scraping at home?
Post by: Russpig on December 31, 2020, 09:02:55 am
We'll be doing a pig at home in month or so.
Just wondering easiest ways of scraping eg blow torch etc?

Is skinning maybe an option?

Any suggestions be much appreciated

There is loads of info and videos on the net. Not sure there is an easy way to remove hair but the water has to be neither too hot or too cold. The pig obviously brings the water temp down so you have to allow for that. Skinning is a option I wouldn't have thought that's the best way with a pork pig. Either way hanging the pig so once you start either process must be key so you can work at a comfortable height. I wouldn't think a blow torch is a good idea. Obviously the skin can be sent with the other waste. You could do with a cold spell like we have now to get the carcase temp down quickly after the slaughter.
