Title: Asparagus variety suitable for southeast Scotland
Post by: Anke on November 03, 2020, 03:27:14 pm
Can someone recommend a variety of asparagus (preferably seed as well as crowns) suitable for southeast Scotland? And maybe a reputable supplier (not Amazon or ebay please).

Many thanks

I would guess most varieties will do as well as any other in S.E.Scotland; you would need to hope for not too many late frosts each spring. We grow, among others, Gijnlim which is an all male F1hybrid (which might be one to go for if growing from seed) as well as the old favourite Conover Colossus. The latter is certainly reliable and probably more readily availble for seeds if you are not going to splash out on year old crowns.  Whatever way you grow, the key for asparagus is soil preparation.
