Tough one so early in spring growth, but I'm going to place a 10 penny bet on it being some sort of willow !?

Hydrangea?

Naagh !  But now it is really worth a 10p bet because you had me wondering a moment, but I'm still saying willow  :) .
A week or so will confirm.

It's a 'wait and see' plant - wait until it does something like flower, then see what it is.

We have wild plum and damson here and the leaves look very similar- that's my 10p guess.

Buddleia?

My resolve is weakened by your suggestion Possum (& your's chrismahon), but this far on with a 10p bet there's no going back.   :)

Buddleia?
That's what I thought but would rather vote for hydrangea .
You cant be sure from the picture I'm afraid.
I can be sure that the goats would eat it in no time  ;D

Any chance of photographic update [member=162324]Alex_[/member]  ??

(I need to know whether I ought, perhaps, budget for a pay-out on 10p bets.  LOL)

I've had another look at it and come to the conclusion it's hydrangea - one reason is that my friend says they are very easy to propagate - so it's probably self seeded.  I'm going to take a bit off my huge hydrangea at the front door and  try it

It hasn't done a lot but it is in an unused bed (disappointing germination rates this year)

Mmm - willow is indeed looking quite probable  :)
I wouldn't say conclusive yet, but I do have my calculator out to tot up potential winnings:  so that would be 10p x ....    :fc:   :D

Indeed, I have got my own little "I don't know what it will be I will just leave it in a pot until I can see...) false-blueberry-turned-goat-willow on my greenhouse potting bench...

If you leave pulling it very much longer Alex_ you will end up having to expend more time getting it out!  I'm sure other posters will agree and are already checking their purses for a 10p coin  :D :D
