Title: shallot seeds
Post by: Polyanya on February 27, 2020, 09:39:45 pm
Anyone growing shallots from seeds? Any advice on when to transplant needed please? We normally grow from sets but fancied this particular variety Zebrune - they have germinated well and are now about 3" tall - should I prick them out now to individual modules ???

I've not grown shallots from seed but other onions. the issue is really long roots and how much better they do in deep soil - prick them out early into deep modules.

I multi-sow my onions (already coming through on propagator, to be moved into Keder this weekend) and leeks into modules straight away, and then just transplant. Not tried shallots though.

Well I've only tried growing onions from seed once and got into a right pickle with them, shouldn't think shallots will be much different. But I'll try growing them on - thanks for the input folks  :D
