Title: Overwintering lettuce

Does anyone in the chilly north grow overwintering lettuce?  If so, have you been successful?  Which variety did you use?  Did you grow outside, in a tunnel, in a heated area?  I tried Winter Density one year but it wasn't ready until my early normal lettuce variety was.
