Hi guys. Looking for recommendations for injections to give my lambs to help them trive.
Or anything else that you think will help them grow strong.
Thanks

We use the following:
Heptavac P Plus for breeding stock & for the first time this year as a precautionary measure, Vecoxan for anti cocci
-
Milk will help them grow, and plenty of it !
Other than heptavac which is a vaccine (and given at a few weeks of age) there is nothing else for new born healthy lambs.
-
Heptavac P when the youngest is 3 weeks old with a follow up dose 4-6 weeks later. Milk from mum and good grass or creep feed. Nothing else needed unless anything ails for some reason.
-
Should they have Hep P that young if the mum's were vaccinated?
I've been taught not to give it till 8 - 10 weeks as they've got immunity from their mum's to start and won't get the same response to it if given too soon.
If the ewes weren't covered then yes they need it early.

Reading the data sheet it says not to vac under 3 weeks due to interfering with passive immunity from maternal colostrum antibodies, and that passive immunity can last around 4 weeks. So your 8-10 weeks could be leaving the lambs with an uncovered window. I normally vac mine when the youngest is 4 weeks old which would make the oldest around 7-8 weeks.

So don't trust the vet then!Although it's not much different to the timing for your oldest ones.

Heptavac p + covers 9 different things and so the passive immunity lasts for varying length's and the data says that by age 4wks the pasteurellosis cover is beginning to weaken but cover for some of the other diseases can remain strong up until 12wks of age , so you pick a time to give the lamb its first injection some where in between BUT if pasturella was a known flock problem then you would want to inject as early as possible . The immunity goes up and down until 2 WEEKS after the second injection when it is at its peak eg first inj 3 -4wks old second inj 4-6 wks later , the lamb has maximum immunity at 9-12 weeks of age . First injection 8-10 wks then second injection 4-6 wks later maximum immunity is at 14- 18 weeks of age
