Title: New to the site
Post by: TheLadybugRanch on January 19, 2020, 02:11:23 pm
Hey all. New hobby farmers in Nova Scotia, Canada. Love all of the great info and advice I’ve been reading. We currently have 30 acres(10 farm 20 wood lot) we have meat chickens and egg birds, trout pond, and pigs. Also 4 cats and 3 dogs. We do grow as much of our own veggies and are putting in fruit trees, a few each year. I look forward to reading all of the past and future posts.

Welcome to TAS, TheLadybugRanch:  hopefully we can learn a bit about small-holding in Canada along the way.

In passing:  my daughter and globe-trotting partner stayed in ... (oh um, I've forgotten) ... for a few months, but eventually decided to cut short their Canadian stay due to the bitter winter cold.  Not sure that was entirely due to her partner's beard breaking off on the way to work very early one morning, but ..... !  :)

Hello and welcome  [member=199159]TheLadybugRanch[/member] .

A trout pond - wonderful (that's another icon we're missing [member=1]Dan[/member] - a fish)

I live in Scotland which is thought of as fairly chilly at times, but I suspect you will be able to educate us about real cold  :cold:   I'm really looking forward to reading your posts  ;D

oooh , I so nearly bought a holding in Canada, north of Calgary, twenty years ago!  Sooooo beautiful, and I loved the Canadian people.  But it would have been snow-bound for months in winter, and probably thick with midges (which I'm told are to Scottish midges what drizzle is to a typhoon!) in autumn, so I regretfully decided it wasn't practical.

Welcome TLBR, yes I'm shortening your name  :D , sounds great, 20 acres of woodland, we had about 4 acres planted, got a while to wait for maturity though  :) .
Looking forward to hearing more about your lifestyle, and what the weather is getting up to  :)
