Title: Treadle feeders ?
Post by: DIGGER on October 19, 2010, 05:05:58 pm
Hi All,

I am thinking about investing in a treadle feeder when I start chicken keeping as I want to try to avoid too many rodents being attracted. I would appreciate hearing of anyone's experiences with these devices before I get my wallet out,

Regards,

if youre getting young birds, they may be fine with it... older ones dont seem to like learning new tricks  ;)

Our lot have been okay with ours...the black rocks were a bit hesitant but got there eventually.

We find them fab as we have two and they take 12kg each so we can split a whole bag between them and it lasts almost a week.  My hubby loves them from the point of less to do when you are letting them out first thing in the morning.  We used to have loads of small feeders that took ages to fill and they seemed to be constantly empty.

Hope another opinion helps

ive never used a treadle feeder and i have no idea how good they are, but this gadget cost us about a fiver, the chickens worked it out in less than five minutes, we used to have loads of crows coming for dinner but that has all stopped now.
sorry about the intro to the video but i do like to play

My flock took 2 or 3 weeks to work out how to use them but there was no stoping them once they'd worked it out and now I wound't be without them. Built to last a lifetime too. I'd definitely recommend them. Once your established flock know how to use them, any new additions will work it out much quicker from watching them. Even the muscovies use them!
