Any suggestions for a breed that will make a useful table bird before the cockerels start to drive the neighbours mad with its crowing?
I'm thinking of using the hens as replacement layers and doing the sensible thing with the cockerels as soon as they are big enough for the kitchen.
Any thoughts?

Stay away from light Sussex. Takes until 30 weeks until they're big enough to eat and god are they noisy! I still have 2 and l planned to keep at least 1 but they're just too darn loud. Chicken curry Coming up me thinks..

We've kept Hubbards before (and have 12 just now) and they are ready for the chop before they start making much noise at all in our experience.
