Title: Need help with my burning fingers...
Post by: cameldairy on October 18, 2010, 10:29:47 pm
Here's the problem...last night i picked some peppers from my garden and didn't realize I had picked the REALLY hot ones!!!! :o I chopped them all up  (thinking they were the sweet ones) then I chopped onions up and cooked it. It wasn't until we ate a bite did we realize I picked the wrong ones. I then washed my hands really good and many times but too late, the pepper oil was already in my skin. Now it's been a whole 24 hours later and my fingers STILL feel like they are on fire! Does anyone know how to soothe this pain or is it only going to take time.

Maybe Aloe vera would work ? Or thinking about what cools it in cooking you could try mashed cucumber spread on your fingers or natural/greek yoghurt, even milk would work to soothe the burning  ??? Worth a shot if you've any to hand. Hope you're not suffering too much.

Yes try the yoghurt that should work, many years a go we had a pot pourri which tipped over, I picked it all up with my hands and then must have rubbed my eye, I didnt realise it had chilli seeds in it!!!!!!!!!!! :'(

How about rubbing a cut lemon on them?  Also be careful what you touch with those burning fingers as more tender parts will be even more painful if the juice transfers :o

second vote for aloe vera ... and the green stain should counteract any red chilli juice on your skin!

nice to see you back CD, hows things?  (apart from the fingers  ;))

do NOT rub your eyes for a week or so :'(
I would see the positive - you are not going to get arthritis in your hands for a while... :&>

thanks guys, I tried a few of your ideas but nothing helped except a few glasses of wine ;). This morning I can barely feel the pain, now maybe a few glasses are needed to celebrate ;D! Oh, I WILL remember gloves next time :o!

Hi little blue, thanks. Lot's have been happening around here, not to mention one of my Great Pyrenees dogs got her leg broke after she was sleeping under my hubby's truck and he didn't know it. We rushed her to the vet and we tried to save it at all costs (the leg). But after 3 surgeries, 3 months and $5000. later they still had to amputate. Poor thing, even though, she thought she was in seventh heaven because for the first time in her life she was a house dog! I make her cooked food and she has her own bedroom with a mattress on the floor. I am her personal maid ::) ;) anyway, she is doing fine now, she gets around fine on 3 legs. It was her right front she lost, shoulder and all.   I learned how to take her staples out and the large wound is all healed up but I still keep a t-shirt on her so she don't just sit around and lick on it all day.  :P

Sorry to hear about your dog. I suppose they get around better than we would if we lost a limb but it's still upsetting. Glad she's doing ok.

oh your poor dog.  :(
They seem to adapt very well.

hardly compares, but one of our cats had his tail shredded & skinned - the vet tidied it down to a little stump - he is totally unconcerned by it.
(though it was quite funny when he was high on metacam and charging around the bedroom like a dervish, with eyes like a junkie!
Sick but funny was when the vet had to fit a syringe tube over the stump as he kept losing the dressing, and the cat woke us up tapping the plastic bit really hard on things! )

Take a couple of antihistimane tablets.
