Title: Ewe struggling to pee
Post by: Llewellyn on September 09, 2019, 05:17:06 pm
Hi all,

Long time lurker but new poster.

I have a ewe which is very regularly squatting to pee, but not actually passing anything. She has been a bit scoury and has a mucky bum, along with one other in the flock (24 in this group). Gathering ready for maintenance and prepare for this years breeding over next few days.

Any ideas on what may be causing her to do this?

3 year old Portland, raised a good lamb this year.

Sorry, have only just seen this.  I hope she’s either got better on her own by now, or you’ve been able to sort her out.

Sounds like cystitis?  Maybe she’s got an infection from the mucky bum?  When you get your hands on her, I’d check her temperature.  I imagine cystitis is as painful and annoying in sheep as it is in women...

If she was in lamb, I’d think she maybe had a bit of a prolapse that was blocking the urethra, but it would be unusual to have anything like that pre-tupping.

Hi Sally,

I think you may have guessed correctly, she was mucky and a bit sore looking, a good dagging and cleaning and a shot of ABs has appeared to have helped over a few days. A bit of condition lost but she is looking more comfortable.

I have only recently weaned, so hopefully she will put condition back on in time for Tup.

TY.
