Title: Flystrike on head
Post by: Penninehillbilly on September 03, 2019, 08:11:09 pm
Hi, will iodine kill maggots?
Ewe knocked her horn off a few days ago, sprayed with iodine, dried up and been ok until tonight.
Tiny grubs, probably just hatched,  to small to see individually, just a little white patch, only thing I had to hand was iodine, sprayed enough to cover them as an emergency measure.
I do have some Crovect or diluted Jeyes in a spray, but worried it was near her eye. Will go back down later for anything tnat needs doing.

I would put some Crovect into a small syringe, and drip onto the wound. Probably better than Iodine. I have been using the Nettex Strike PLus spray successfully.

Crovect will certainly kill them but is very irritating. Put a drop on your skin and see what I mean! If you have to use it then you can dilute it @ 10 x and it's still very effective when applied to the maggots. Can you get some fly strike cream from your agric suppliers?

The iodine seemed to do the trick, they were dried up and I scratched them away,  keeping a close eye on her.
I haven't seen the cream, will look next time.
