Have a look at the Melton Mowbray sale catalogue for a fortnight's time... although it may seem a long way to go, there are usually some of the Aberdeen crowd down there so you may be able to "hitch a lift" back for him ready to go on the ferry.  Alternatively, Scottish Goatkeepers Federation on FB may be able to put you in touch with local breeders who may have stock.

There were a bunch of GG cross Bagots at Thainstone mart rare breed sale last weekend along with a Bagot male all from Shetland.  I don't know if the seller also had a GG male or if the crosses were from the Bagot male that was sold off GG females but seller was Jeromson from Bridge of Walls per the catalogue if that helps.

Thanks folks for the tips and advice - the GG x baggots are related to my GG girls (its a small  world isn't it). The breeder is where I bought mine from a few years ago. Hardly anyone keeps goats in Shetland these days and currently there are no breeding males on the island. I'll certainly have a look at the Melton Mowbray catalogue  and try the number you gave David.
I've also messaged fb goat groups Scarlet and all the usual goat assocs.

Thanks again.

I know that Doonies Rare Breed Farm on the outskirts of Aberdeen has GGs.  You could also consider AI or stud for the girls if that's easier than getting a male to Shetland.  Another option may be Hadleigh Farm in Essex (the Salvation Army breeding programme).  Emma usually has stock for sale, and having one of her males here, I can say he has lovely manners; I know others who have some of her boys feel the same way about theirs too.

Thought someone might be interested to know that thanks to Scarlet Dragon's input and knowledge of the goatie community I now have the loan of a Pure Saanen goatling for this autumn/winter from a very helpful breeder in Orkney. Thank you Scarlet
Not a Golden I know but my original Golden does have Saanen in her DNA and gives me lovely milk so I'm quite happy with that arrangement.
Also thank you Anke for all your help too and the offer of a potential Golden boy next year - its all good!  :goat:
