Hi
I have posted the following in sheep but hoping I can get help here as well,
Help please.
Ewe kidded end of April, noticed she had swollen udder a couple of days ago, but her 2yr old daughter chases her away, caught her today. Massive and solid, managed to squeeze some gunk and clear liquid out, but can't shift the main lump.
Seems to be eating and drinking OK
I have Pan & Strep in, would that help or am I too late?
With goats uddermint can be used on some udder problems, would that help?

Not sure if lambs are getting anything from other side, I didn't realise till I caught her, I thought it was both sides she is so big.
Udder not hot.
Gunk is like Cottage cheese and water, no milk as such.
Whole quarter is solid
She doesn't seem in pain untill I try milking her, but she never has liked being handled back end.

What happened in the end? Was she ok, did you just strip it out? Hope all is well!

Roddy, gave her P&S, been stripping her out, lots of lumps there, but not as solid as it was, getting disgusting stuff out, massaging with uddermint, at least I smell minty rather than sheepy when I go in house LOL
She is still eatinging and drinking OK

SD, sorry, only just noticed, that was supposed to be a grin after 'so many questions', I must remember to use the TAS symbols and not the keyboard ones, which seem to turn into question marks.
I have her and her smaller lamb in a small area near the house, still stripping her out, udder not as much pressure there, but far from right., lower part softer but very lumpy round top,
Also a strange sore appeared, started off like an overlap of skin, but gap opened up.

Not a sore, more strange little lump showing through skin.

Sorry can't make out the picture. But whatever the outcome I think she may best not be bred from again. In my experience with sheep and mastitis it won't be a functioning udder next year...

changed the picture and put it the right way up, sorry Anke, couldn't alter it on the tablet.
I agree, no more breeding, she has reared lambs really well, it will be hard to part with her, but she's 7 years old and may have other problems.
