I loved this thread, so how about starting it off again?
So far I have
fed the birds, dug a bit in the polytunnel, removed old tomato plants from the greenhouse, started a fire in the drum (frustrating), weeded a bit, clipped the old broad beans and made a box of kindling from last years hedge cut, a bit here and there, really....I can't decide which job to finish ::):&>
-
today is a rest day in my world, so far i have made a shelter for the outside of my chicken run to keep there food dryer (overlooked in origianal build)
i have cleaned out the coop, have checked all the chooks for any injuries etc and let them out for a days garden trashing!!!
i still have to pooperscoop the lawn from the dog and put away the kids play equipment for the winter!!!
so much for my rest day!!!
-
Great minds think alike! I was thinking just this morning about re-starting or finding the old thread for this.
So far, I have done 2 washings, hung them out, ordered AI straws for my goat, painted the garage roof with roof sealant, finished tidying up inside the garage, moved the new chest freezer (bought off ebay for putting the pork in) into situ in the garage, unloaded the feeding, given the pigs fresh straw, and stuffed straw leafs down the gap between the wall and the hurdle's in their shed.
Obviously before all that there was milking and feeding, but that's everyday so I don't mention it! Just in case everyone thinks I never feed the animals!

So far today i have...
Cleaned out both coops, washed out & treated with mite spray.
Anyone used those "mite bombs" that are advertised on ebay?
Sound similar to the ones you use in greenhouses, only more expensive.
Dusted layers & growers with red mite powder.
Cleaned up hens legs & smeared lightly with vaseline.
Disinfected all feeders & drinkers.
Moved coops & runs onto slabs for the winter, put layer of shavings down to cover slabs.
Came in for a heat .... it's damn cold here today
Still to replace bedding etc & the car needs a t cut & polish, but that might happen tomorrow if it stays fair
-
Dan and I have spent the day in Sheepfold, our two acre field, repairing the fence. We also cleared out the byre ready for tomorrow when we start the final preparations for the calves coming.
-
I have planted lots of different spring bulbs, let our 10 day old ducklings swim in the bath, made up bee food and added thymol crtstals so now the whole house stinks. Put feed in the hives and got stung on finger as thanks. now sitting with a large glass of red wine.
-
I have done the usual goat/rabbit/chicken jobs but also squeezed in an Autumn fair - not buying, selling! my goat milk soap and bath bombs. Dragged number 1 daughter along (the 8 year old who's maths is better than mine) and we sold loads, fabby day! ;D
have just persuaded the new chickens not to roost in the willow tree but instead to learn how to use an indoor perch and now settled with plum wine and about to indulge in a bath with a handmade bath cupcake
-
Just made my second batch of quince jelly, picked 10lb of sloes and 10lb of crab apples for next ones, tomorrow is going to be 10lb of rosehip!!
The jam making empire is underway
-
made pancakes for the kids breakfast
moved loads of plants from one place to another
tried to round up ewes to move to a new field (they were having none of it!) - will try again tomorrow
started a few soft fruit border & planted 2 tayberries and 3 gooseberry bushes and some strawberries
moved the pig house from one field to another for the new piggies coming in a couple of weeks
waited 3 hours for someone to phone that i was supposed to be meeting - only to find out that we'd be re-scheduled!
ate a ginormous tea that my lovely sister made
and now sitting eating ice cream, have cup of tea in my hand and just about to watch the x-factor..
-
Walked the dogs - 4 miles.
Checked the greenhouse and seedlings and moved some plants in. Fed and watered chooks.
Took my weather readings (I know ::) ) :)
Took my good lady a cup of tea in bed and got ready for work.
Went to shop at 9.15am and left at 5.45pm (quiet morning, manic afternoon, good day overall)
Did some deliveries and got home about 6.25pm.
Got changed, fed the chooks a handful of corn and checked them over.
Checked the greenhouse and took weather readings.
Washed down the outside of the greenhouse ready for winter (inside tomorrow). We have a large light shining on the back of our house from a club.
Rolled up the hose pipe that has been out since spring then came in.
Just about to go over to the chippie for chicken/fish/kebab and chip meal. Not all three you understand but I'm not sure which one yet.
Intend to partake of some Old Peculiar a little later.

had a lie-in! (needed it)
then... fed & watered everything, walked to town, bought hat, thick socks & warm gloves in the charity shop, walked back. checked all the animals & watched the piglets for abit.
mucked out the goat shed & pen, in the drizzle (but at least it kept the goats out the way!)
cleared some weeds to supplement the chickens/ducks and checked the quail for dirty feet. oh, and fed the baby quail throughout the day too - they are just off heat & still in the house.
hoovered & tidied here and there, refilled the dishwasher, walked the dog, fed the animals & watched the piglets!
put some washing on
had tea whilst watching Harry Hill (Sheba loves his voice!) just put the kittens to bed, quick fix of TAS before going to milk the goat...
-
Done the normal taxiing involved with being a Mum (youngest is having golf lessons atm ::))
we have just finished bailing and wrapping 66 bales from 2 acres of haylage to see the ponies through the winter also got a bonus hay bale out of the baler, we just beat the dark drawing in only needed the car head lights to close the gates.....So all in all a good day.
Hubby has just gone to pick up the Chinese for tea.
-
So may good deals, a fre Belfast sink. 10p veg and salad stuff from the co op and good as new bed and matress for £120.00 good deal good day!!!!!!!!!!
-
The usual feeding and watering before heading off to work at Kelso races, busy day so absolutely knackered now. Just sat down with a cup of tea and a catch up here and on facebook.
-
Busy busy busy - stained my garden bench, hoovered the whole house, made some apple juice and drank it all, luvly jubbly, made a loaf of bread for Donald coming tomorrow, took all five dogs for an hour and a half run in the woods in two lots, so 3 hours in total, plus 40 minutes traveling, came home and put up green protective screening on new fence, cleaned out duck shed while all the birds went out to play, shut them in at teatime then rescued the two new white youngsters from the jaws of death i.e. Hester. Off fro a nice cup of tea and a quick trip outside for Hester, then off to bed. Thought about going to Alva to watch a bit of the Labrador Club of Scotand Show but to be honest 3 hours with my Brittanys is a lot more fun. ;D
-
we been log collecting today, well all week end really, getting it all ready for cracking up the fire, should have all the logs home by the end of next week end. made some home made soup also, and all the usual, dog things, horse things and hen things, oh and house things
-
Cleared the sweetcorn and pumpkin patch ready for my native plant flower bed and found another pumpkin hidden in the gap behind the greenhouse. Planted some Fritillary bulbs, staked the purple sprouting broccoli again! (it keeps pushing the stakes over), removed all the fox poo. The husband bought himself a chainsaw chopped a load of logs and now appears to be making a massive vat of stock.
-
Mucked out 26 of 28 racehorses, went home, checked on my animals, went to pick up little Max the westie so he can stay with me while his mums on holiday, took him home settled him in,went back to work and mucked out the racehorses again
-
Woke up in the middle of a forest at 06:30, stinking of woodsmoke, and prayed for a lie-in. Phoned work, "Yes, please come in, things aren't going too well here".
Drove across the misty valley as the sun rose. Beautiful.
True, things not too good at work. 19:20 now, and I'm still here. Hopefully I've got it fixed now, because if I can't get the machine to run this time, it's going to be a very long night. Phoned home - my dinner is already in the dog apparently, so I needn't stress ::)
-
passed my CBT, so no independently mobile ;D
-
well done Cameron
... are the streets no longer safe?! ;)

Apart from the routine stuff, brushed down, swept out and vacuumed (truly) the byre in preparation for the calves coming. Dan boarded up the gap into the feed store and cut of the neck chains; wormed Niamh and Nova; trimmed Leo and Dickie's feet; made bacon sandwiches for lunch; took Bugsy out on longreins (little star :horse:) ; looked at the sunken garden and wondered what the hell we're going to do with it; looked at the vegetable garden and wondered what the hell we're going to do with it; looked at the fruit garden ....

Made Steve breakfast in our new bed but he got out as he dare not drip his beans on the new bedding ;) Went off to the car boot and bought a few bits and some more Christmas decorations, then cleaned ou t some shitty straw (whops...is that word allowed?) then off to t he tip, then off for a walk, then BIG T and FIre and Telly and had to make up a bed for someone returning tonight instead of tomorrow and we thought we would be alone for once ;) ;)

took OH's car away to be fixed, made a pot of steamed apple (lot of peeling :P) and supervised my eldest cooking our dinner, sweet and sour pork :yum:, watched the x-factor (I'll miss the Divas) and now it's bedtime, hoping I'll have a better night than last (part spent on the sofa)  :&>
-
So far this day has proven to be very unproductive. I did manage to grill some rib eye steaks for the hubby and myself but I've yet to clean the kitchen :P I think I'll go swimming instead ;D
-
Emptied the chemical toilet, picked poo in the pony field, cleaned the cat's litter tray, cleaned out the hens (see a pattern here?), went to the local leisure centre for a wonderful shower then put all my dirty clothes in the washing machine. Changed the bed - washed, dried and back on. It's been a lovely day here.
Then researched cows ;) :cow: ready for Thursday.

Us lot deal with a lot of *it!! by the looks of it, I took some bags of used chicken bedding to tip only to think how much that smell stays with you, then I saw some all down my leg!!!!! Compulsory Basic Training - it's the first part of a provisional motorcycle licence, that allows a learner motorcyclist to go out on his/her own, with L plates.
Congratulations Cameron.

Spent the morning and early afternoon tussling with moochmarketing paperwork; so cold in the caravan, I took Smokey for a longrein to warm up. It's been a beautiful day, but bitterly cold. Worked out the paperwork now so will crack on with it after dinner.

after the usual in the morning we went to the pictures - to see an absolutely crazy animation from Belgium with subtitles - but so worth seeing, all the audience were rolling on the floor laughing, it's called "A town called panic" ;D ;D ;D :&> then made potato salad, of course from our own tatties and onions and the last cucumber :'( :yum: then had a go at puff pastry, still waiting for the outcome ;D :&>

Didn't do the paperwork - read my Jilly Cooper novel instead ;D Broke the ice on the water buckets this morning - it's sooooo cold. Bertie Kitten slept under the duvet lst night. I think he's decided semi-feral is OK in summer - house cat mode in winter :cat:
-
Had a lie-in
Made grape juice from mother-in-law's gift of grapes from her vine
Made a loaf of bread
Prepared raised bed for onions
Ordered onions and garlic for autumn planting
Ordered now big soft warm dressing gown and decent slippers for winter
Went for a run
Popped into town to give ID details to bank for new account
Did supper
Groomed dog
Had bath
Washed guest room sheets and hung them out to dry
But - I have today - spent most of the time sitting about watching TV - Snowdonia 1890 and the Apprentice
-
We got our calves!!!! They're lovely and quite calm although I can hear them bellowing now. They've had a long day - loaded at 3pm yesterday, we picked them up at 9.30ish this morning and brought them home. They loaded and unloaded like a dream. They've had something to eat and a drink and a poo and a chat, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
-
oh bless congratualations, please will you post some pics.
today i sorted horses, walked dogs, cleaned hens out, split some logs, pooh picked for dogs and horses, all in the rain it has rained alday here!!!!!!!! i now have 3 coats and waterproof trousers hanging everywhere drying out ready for tomorrow
-
moved what felt like about a thousand sheep. planted couple of hundred onion sets, started an asparagus bed, made spicy beetroot and coconut soup, fed all the animals and 'spent' all my tesco vouchers before they change 4:1 to 3:1 - now exhasuted and if i can find my specs i plan to settle down with my gardeners world mag and a glas of vino!
-
Did even less today. Last day of holiday and feeling very relaxed.
Went and had lunch at my favourite cafe (OH hates it so I spent a luxurious half hour on my own reading a glossy gardening mag).
Spent a frustrating hour and a half trying to get our printer to network to both our computers. Turns out it was just a button press on the printer side. OH discovered it quite by accident and now can't remember what button he pressed :-)) but at least it's done.
Cut down an old past-it japonica that was here when we arrived. Ditto gone-over Hebe bush.
Pulled up all the old tomato plants out of the polytunnel and all the old stuff in pots dotted around the place.
Ahhh - finished ironing and cooked supper. Poor OH is not well. He's got this week what I had last week so he has my every sympathy!!!!
-
I actualy bought an expensive housey mag as we need to decorate and I want ideas...otherwise, cleaning, shopping, walking and more cleaning NOW..........................CHILLING ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Just work :-( but at least we are only £400M out now instead of £1.8bn. My mum had a bad though- we have 2 goats visiting, they arrived on Tuesday to stay and get mated by the billy. This morning the littler one was scouring, and she died by lunchtime. It awful when any animal dies, but this wasn't even ours! Horrible!

Baby ducks, chickens, ducks all fed and let out, old Hester the same, cat has gone out too. Off to take dogs out via shops for dog food. Will be walking dogs in rain today, then taking wee one out on his own for training. Went to my trainer on Thursday so need to keep up the momentum this time. Let the older one off with too much and he runs riot on the shoot now unless kept on a long line. See you in 4 hours ;) ;D
-
I'm having a lazy day today ;D The in-laws have been here all week and grandma just loves being left with the 2 little ones when the 2 big ones are at school so it's given us the chance to get on ;)
This week we've done about 100m of fencing (still got the stock fence to attach because the torrential rain stopped play) all with strainer posts and gates. Cleared more of my dad's massive shed (it's got to be 1000m2 at least!) - full of 20 years of collecting junk, just incase we 'need' more space - but as soon as I've a space I tend to fill it ;) So I'm banned from any sales until after xmas :-[
Gotten half the floor ripped up and relayed in what's going to be our new kitchen, made a doorway and fitted a door into new kitchen (with a big lock to keep the little uns out)
Started Christmas shopping (on-line)
Made a lovely BIG shoe rack to hold all hubby's shoes with 1 or 2 spaces for mine and the kids ???
But I've still got a to-do list as long as my arm ! Better get back to it lol!
Let us know what you got Cobra ;D
-
Went to the nursery and bought more lemon and orange trees to plant, (They also gave me a BIG bag of lemons cause they have so much) Came home and grilled some thick pork chops I had marinated over night, it was so tender and juicy! Now I'll go out and check on a very pregnant camel then start planting the citrus trees before I feed the animals.
-
Got a lie in after a long week. Up at 8:30 when mum came back in from milking the goats. Went straight out and fed the pigs and chickens. Filled the chicken hoppers, did a little clearing in the veg patch, and then let the pigs into it. Went out to get to the hairdressers for 10:15, had hair cut, looked at the farmers market but didn't buy much. On to the supermarket got a few things then to work for 5 hours. :( Home again, got the visiting goat mated, cooked tea, did the goats, shut in all the poultry.
On the sofa watching tv now! But uploading videos to youtube as well.

raced like to mad to harvest and process apples, carrots, parsnips, pumpkins, Jerusalem artichokes elderberries as I won't have time for the next 5 days. So we had apple cake, root soup and fresh flatbreads. :&>

And Ally was doing what?????? ::) ;D ;D ;D
-
Fed all animals and milked the goat, went to find ::) and round up the geese and killed 13 ,killed the up to weight turkeys. Made some jam and oven dried a huggin of parsley. Moved more ducks down to free range on the burn and put the young turkeys in the now free duck run. After various upgrades and shufflings of chooks cleaned all poultry huts out. Then it was time to try and get all the poultry in their new abodes for the night!
-
Fantastic day, birthday treats today spent the morning at the auction with me mate and my daughter ad brought home eight pigs to their new home. Dosnt get any better than that does it.
-
And Ally was doing what?????? ::) ;D ;D ;D
He's gone down to his parents this weekend. But he's not very good at always helping outside anyway- especially if it means gardening!
