Title: Dispersal on the Manx herd of Shetland cattle, September 2019, Melton Mowbray

Large sale of Shetlands at Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire at the Traditional Native Breeds National Show and Sale, on 13/14 September with the dispersal of the Manx herd from the Isle of Man. The cattle should be available for viewing on the Friday with the sale on the Saturday. There are 23 animals listed. 4 cows ages 5 - 8, 4 homebred cows 3 years old, 2 homebred 2017 heifers, 4 homebred 2018 heifers, 3 homebred 2019 heifer calves and 6 homebred 2019 bull calves. The homebred cattle can be seen on SCHBS database under the prefix Manx.

Have to admit to not knowing of this breed prior to this thread - small cattle to me were Dexters & then Low-Liners & followed by mini Herefords............


Anyone on here have an idea how these are as a meat breed?

They aren't tiny wee cattle but much smaller than "conventional" breeds. We send two steers away ay about 28 month and the dw is 350 / 360kg. The beef is fantastic - taste, texture. Just amazing. Because we have small numbers - three cows and a bull plus folowers, we sell privately. The steers don't make great money through the ring.
The cows are easy to keep - grass, hay, minerals, bit of sugar beet to keep them tame.
