I wonder if anyone can help: I have been given a centrifuge, albeit an old one. It is quite rusty but that comes off quite well with wirewool. However, the next day the rust starts to come back. Can anyone recommend something to treat the metal with which will stop it re-rusting but also not be unpleasent or dangerous to eat when I enjoy the honey. I am imagining WD40 for the outside, but inside I just do not know. Olive oil or sunflower oil, but they might go off over time... Any ideas?

When I started out beekeeping I had a many times second hand galvanised free standing extractor that could take either 12 brood or super frames. I used to spray olive oil from a trigger pack on the extractor after washing it in hot soapy water , rinsing it I hot & drying it off ,then gave it a hot soapy water wash & rinse before using it again .
I wouldn't recommend using steel wool pads to clean it just incase you leave a tiny bit behind & it gets into a jar of honey . Green nylon pan scrubbers are good any tiny bits rinse off well .
In the end I got a secondhand plastic barrel bodied extractor with a stainless steel 36 brood or super frame capacity & vari speed electric drive .

Clean it off as above then use beeswax.
