What if I accidentally print off hunky male butterfly decoys by mistake, and attract all of the females to my cabbage patch?  :o

Although we don't have much of a problem with cabbage whites, maybe because we have lots of small birds to eat them, I'm going to give it a try.  Haven't sown the brassicas yet except caulis, but I'll be prepared as I've printed off the template.  It's an interesting idea.  If it attracts every Cabbage White in South Lanarkshire to my patch I shall not be pleased pgkevet  :bfly: :bfly: :bfly: :bfly: :bfly:  (OK those are cabbage browns.....)

Well nothing done means nothing gained , I'm fed up of my cabbages & broccoli looking like bulb fennel or gone to seed asparagus  once unnoticed  baby caterpillars have had a couple of days free feeds.
Had to spray them a couple of times last year despite not wanting to as the plants were black with them .
I've just printed off three sheets .

Think I'll pop each of the three sheets of butterflies I've printed off between two sheets of clear sticky plastic sheet then  quickly  cut them out slightly larger than the drawings.

48  cut outs should be OK for all the beds & a couple in the green house .

Looking at the prints just now , it will be a doddle to cut them apart using the old fashioned Dryda style  school guillotine I have .    …. Something to do if it's tipping it down tomorrow morning  .

Our cabbages failed for two reasons last year. Firstly the ground is lifeless, having had nothing added to it (except the terrible compost they sell here perhaps) for years and secondly, the few cabbages that went well got eaten but caterpillars. So I'm going to give this a try but modify it a bit by putting the images back-to back, so that if it blows over in the wind the image can still be seen.

Going to buy cabbage plants specially to test this decoy.

Did you really mean that?  I have this lovely mental picture of you trotting down to the betting shop in your wellies, placing your 10:1 bet that THIS year you won't have any cabbage whites.  :coat:

I Wonder if this idea would work on other garden pests

I'll just point out I was asking if it works...
I Wonder if this idea would work on other garden pests

I can see it now... large paper cats to keep the birds away as well as hawk cut-outs.. then large paper dogs in case the cats congregate and a large paper old lady who swallowed a fly...
