Title: Shetland x Southdown ?

Has anyone crossed a shetland ewe with a soudown ram? how did you find the lambs? do they make a good cross for the freezer?

hummmmm??? no answers........ I thought it would be a good mix of a highland and a low land breed of simular size........  any one to commeny would be good,...i dont mind honesty, speak you mind.... ;D ;D :D :D :sheep: :sheep:

you would be losing the advantage of the large size of the south down. and you could lose the special taste of the shetland. yet again our shetlandx cheviots are as big as there cheviot mums. if its for your freezer it does not matter

I like the hardyness of the shetland and thought that if I bought in a slightly larger breed like the southdown that it would produce a better carcass and keep the durability of the shetland, maybe its the wrong experiment to try? by the way I loved the look of the cheviots in scotland when I was on holiday

i thin the do have a good face. however the shetlans powder puff faces in winter are cute.
