Title: Doe not regaining weight
Post by: Backinwellies on February 28, 2019, 10:18:27 am
Hi

I have a doe who reared twins (for too long as buyers kept delaying pick up!) …. she has been kid free for 2 months now but is not regaining any weight (has probably got thinner).   I have fluked and wormed.  She is still eating happily and coat is shiny.  She is more of a grazer than my other ANxs …. they will finish a meal of mix of calf course mix/beef nuts/all rounder nuts (and eat much more if allowed!) she eats enthusiastically but always wanders off to see if there is anything else before eating half of hers.   They have ad lib hay and copper lick available.

I have just wormed with a different wormer and given mineral drench … so hoping that will help..... other ideas please

would you give probotic?

Have you got other goats or sheep in kid / lamb?

I've got one goat that every year gets picky, goes off her feed and gets thin every year around this time. The first year she was extremely thin and I took her to the vets, all sorts of tests and £100 bill concluded she was a very healthy bag of bones.
As soon as kidding starts she starts eating again and steadily gains weight till next year. She's not kidded herself for 5 years but had a cloud burst pregnancy after I finally dried her off and retired her last autumn.  She's just very tuned in to all the pheromones whiffling around.
