It's only when I looked that up that I expanded the pic to find a beautiful green woodpecker munching on the Golden Hornets. We don't have them round here  :(

Not a crab apple, Fleecewife. Must be a very old variety. Our house was built in 1650 and I would assume this was grown to be early winter food. Doesn't ripen until late October and a few normally hang around till Christmas. This year, presumably because we have only had one or two frosts, this is what we still have. We leave them for the birds!

We have the same here , again a very old tree. wish I knew the variety  , have some in storage taste very nice
