Title: Goodbye Chaz my friend
Post by: Jackie on September 28, 2010, 10:57:30 am
Today I had to have Chaz pts as he had had a stroke and the whole back end had gone. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I overdosed Chaz with Metacam to relieve any pain before the vet could get to us.

Because he had a failing heart the vein was hard to find, the vet tried several times before he was successful.

I lay beside Chaz cuddling him and talking softly to him the whole time.

Whilst I was still crying the vet gave me the bill.

Visit------------58.34
Euthanasia  --- 103.45
Cremation ------106.62
Ashes returned--63.96
Wooden urn-----18.08

TOTAL----------£350.45

Oh Jackie, I'm sorry to hear about Chaz - you know he's not suffering now.
Sending you virtual hugs and kisses  :-*

Also sending a big virtual kick in the ass to your vet  >:(
Talk about bedside manner  ::)
It's bad enough the amount they charge, you'd think they'd have a LITTLE tact and diplomacy - shocking !

Sorry to hear about your dog - you did the right thing by him, though.

I'd have been crying even harder after that bill :o Surely the urn was solid gold? That's a pure rip-off. Talk about kicking someone when they're down.

So sorry you had to let your old friend go Jackie. As for the vet......  The git could have at least waited & posted the bill on to you.

sleep well Chaz, I completely understand you dosing him with Metacam... we had to do the same for old Barney boy.
what an outrageous bed-side manner that vet has.  And everything on there is nearly double the price of ours - find yourself a new one!

So sorry to hear your sad news Jackie.

Run Free Chaz. Totally know where you are coming from with the crying bit. It's so unfair that they live such short lives.

Hug to you and hot iron up the jacksey to the highway man vet.

Might be worth going to the papers about the vet too.

Ian

I am sorry to hear of your loss.  I am shocked again today by the behavious of some vets!  Common sense would tell any decent being that having a loved one PTS is a very distressing time and for some people losing a pet is worse than losing a relative!  Surely they need people skills for their job, with behaviour like that Id say they were in the wrong job!! :'( :'(

I know a lot of people switch on auto pilot during stressful times, they do anything practical as their emotions switch off......Sadly, I remember oh too well the morning my mum died in my home, I just left her to sit quietly a moment and my now ex started asking me what I am going to do with her money etc!!! all I wanted was a hug and a cup of tea!!!!!!!

You will never in a milion years guess what the vet said to me today. He upset me greatly, once again!!

Telephone rang, I said "Hello." as you do

Vet said "Hello Mrs Brown. The ashes from Charlie are ready for you to collect but because he was a big dog we couldnt fit all the ashes into the urn so we have put some in a plastic bag for you."  :o :o >:( :( :'( :'( ??? :o >:( :( :'(

Without saying anything I burst into tears and slammed the phone down.

Hubby saw the state I was in so I told him what the vet had said and he rang the vet and had a God awful arguement with the vet.

The upshot being I will get an urn the right size for a golden retriever from my old vet in Melton and I will make a formal complaint about this vet to the BVA.

Not only that Jackie - name and shame him so that others will be spared your grief!  Which practice was it and which town?  That is just so awful I can't put it into words!  I wonder what they would do with my Hester - a large German Wirehair!  I have a friend who used to own a pet crematorium and Mike would NEVER have done this to anyone!

Am so sorry to hear about your dog, I lost my homebred treasure in July, he had wandered off to look for me and someone run him down....I found him the next day in the ditch after hours of searching and shouting.  I decided to get him cremated and before I had even left the house, his little body wrapped in a towel, I had been told the cost.  It didnt matter the cost I just wanted to do for him what I wanted to do for him. He would have been 3 tomorrow. I miss him.

Bless you, am sure your doggie is now at peace at Rainbow Bridge, waiting for the day he sees you coming and will leave his friends and come and meet you. xx

Jeez Jackie......   What a complete arse this vet is.   Try not to let the idiot get to you again. Remember the happy times with your dog & know he's not suffering now. I lost Zebedee, my cross Jack Russell many years back. I had grown up with this dog & had been with me 14 years, someone poisoned him. You don't forget them.

So many loved companions on here.

Mickyork and Ponytrap I would have felt soo much worse in your situations, at least with Charlie it was his time to go and it was the kindest, and only thing, I could do for him.

I must say though that when I first rang the receptionist was extremely nice and kind and I heard her voice change and she sounded very empathetic and compasionate.
I rang at 8.45am and she tried to get the vet to us very quickly because Chaz was in pain and she tried to get the vet to us sooner but he came at 10.30.
The receptionist rang and apologised that the vet couldn't come sooner as he was at the Waltham clinic and that was when I made the decision to OD Chaz with Metacam to relieve the pain and confusion. Thank God I had Metacam.
