Title: Stockport based, wannabe smallholder
Post by: Henna84 on September 08, 2018, 01:55:51 pm
Hi

I've come to the board seeking interest from people local to Stockport who are interested in starting a community smallholding.

We could grow our own food and keep some livestock like a dairy cow, pigs, chickens, rabbit etc and share the costs, labour and produce.

If you're interested in this or would like to comment further about this, please see my main post in The Accidental Smallholding Forum>>Smallholding>>Crofting:Interested in starting a group smallholding Stockport?  post.

About me -
My wife and I are recently married, last year :) and have started growing our own food in our back garden and have fallen in love with not having to buy food!  But also we think that it tastes better for the love and care that has gone into it.

We have had excellent success with courgettes, onions and small cucumbers for pickling, carrots, beans, swedes, leeks etc :D  It has been so exciting and made us feel better, physically and mentally.

So we would like to extend this into our meat if at all possible.

I love eating meat, but I feel really guilty about it.  The suffering of animals in modern, large scale (and not so large scale) farming is absolutely heartbreaking.

We watched Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's Bramble Farm show about 10 years ago and we've been thinking that there is no reason why we can't start our own community smallholding along the same lines.

Anyway, hello to the group!
