Title: removing bubblegum tags
Post by: Fleecewife on September 12, 2010, 10:57:01 pm
We have just had to remove 3 Allflex Bubblegum EID tags (because I stupidly put them in the wrong lambs  ::) - long story)  My goodness they are difficult to get out.  Previous tags have been very easy, just needing side-cutter pliers to cut off the sharp bit on the end of the pin.  Bubblegum tags don't have an exposed bit to cut off.  It needed a junior hacksaw and some sharp pliers plus some skilled and extremely delicate work by my OH to get the wretched things out.  No ears were damaged during the operations  ;D and the Soay lambs were very well behaved throughout.  Phew !

Not without also taking off the ears  :o  There is no purchase, so the saw was to make grooves for the side cutter pliers to remove the big nobby bits on each end of the pin, very carefully.  We will have to take out a couple more later, so we will practice indoors with a spare tag or two.
