Title: Chicken breed
Post by: valechickens on September 10, 2010, 09:09:52 pm
Just thought would ask this question of you all to see what came back as we keep all these breeds and the demand for one type seems to surpas ALL the others!
was wondering if just a local trend or if it's more on a BIG scale?

Orpingtons cos they're lovely, but Light Sussex or Rhode Island Red for egg laying capacity ;)

Australorps. as they are about the only breed on that list that haven't been ruined by backyard and Exhibition breeders.

i like legbars but then atm i only got a small area so got 6 bantams and 2 RID lf  i got a welsummer, wheaton pekin light sussex and then a few mixed bantams so then i got 1 cotswold legbar x RIR lf and 5 mixed bantams then i got  3 legbars for 2 weeks ago hatched  but it all depends what you want them for for what breed you like as for meat im going to try a RIR light sussex and for just eggs a warren will do me for egg laying capability

I think Bantams are absolutely lovely but I don't have enough space for a new house and wouldn't want to mix them with the layers. :chook: :&>
