Has anyone read or bought Dick strawbridges new Book, Practical Self Sufficiency, what do you think?
I am tempted as I liked the shows that he and his family have done and his general jovial outlook on life, I also think for a complete novice like myself it could be a good source of reference material and somewhere to get some good ideas from and try out.
My girlfriend will no doubt be rolling her eyes and wondering what sort of wild ideas I will be subjecting her to live through if I do decided to buy it. hee hee
I supposed to some people the strawbrides are a bit like marmite Love/hate relationship? to me I think they are brilliant.

I was going to say 'I like Dick' then thought better of it ! ;) ;D ;D ::) :o
I'm a fan though! I liked 'it's not easy being green' and everything I've seen since has been just as good. I'm banned from buying any more books on smallholding stuff at the minute until I can get ANOTHER bookcase ! But once I do...................
Cavendish - just a thought, check out your local library. They might be able to order it for you if they don't have it already. That way you can try before you buy (or keep taking it back to get stamped and keep it til you've memorised it ;))

lol happy hippy!!
I think any books on smallholding and self sufficiency make a good read - I found that we took ideas from all different sources. Makes good bedtime reading - although I have a nice Pete Doherty book to look forward to tonight I must admit.

hes got one hell of a moustace!!!!!!!!!! think dick first came to light on scrapheap challenge, with army background did very well on the programme. only watched a few of the self sufficiency prog think it was in devon where they grew crops and restored an old cottage, very into alternative power sources............

I loved the idea of the programme and I am a fan of The Strawbridges but a lot of what they do does not look very 'nice' for want of a better word, looks more like scrap heap challenge ..the house! Lots of good ideas and inspiration. They have a website so their book maybe featured on there.

Did he not just nearly win Masterchef? Loved his programs! Will keep a lookout for his book with the book people, they tend to have these after a month or 2 at a good price. I think I can make an exception for this from my resolution for the past 2 New Years - no more books ;D Failed twice (Victorian Farm and Grow Your Own drugs) so far. :&>

Did he not just nearly win Masterchef?
Did he? I thought he'd be more a "Can't cook, won't cook" making something out of a wilted cabbage and a dead hedgehog ;D
