Title: Horse trailer?
Post by: Helencus on August 29, 2010, 12:40:29 pm
Hi probably been asked before but are you allowed to transport pigs in a horse trailer? I thought I heard not but can't be sure.

Hiya,
It's my understanding that as long as you can completely wash out and disinfect the trailer that it's okay - but if it's going to an abbetoir it would be best to talk to them direct.

Should be fine for the pigs, but will the horses not be afraid of going into the trailer afterwards? Some are petrified of pigs, though it seems to be the sight rather than smell of them.

Thanks both my horses are fine with the pigs. Were a bit freaked out for first few days but are great mates now. I'll check with the local abatoir as would rather not have to buy another trailer. Thanks

Make sure you check with the abattoir first! Alot wont allow it due to no back gates to stop escaping etc, and its a definite no for market too
