Title: Antihistamine and pigs

Hi
I have an eight year old kune who has always had raspy breathing at times and also chokes a bit when he drinks
We treat him with antibiotics which ease for a while but lately he has got a bit worse and am wondering if it could be a bit of an allergy also as when i am down with them i sneeze and get a bit wheezy during the hayfever months.
Does anyone know if it would harm him to have a piriton or benedryl tablet?

Has he been wormed? Pig worms can affect the lungs

Yes they are regularly done. Vet has seen him a few times and spoke to a specialist who thinks it is the fact that he has an extremely short snout and always been snuffly and doesnt believe anything would be found if knocked out and checked. We have gone through steroid shots, anti inflammatories etc. He is fairly happy in himself and always ready for a treat.  just wondered if it would be worth a shot at something like piriton if it won't do him any damage to see if it made a difference

Hiya,
Poor piggy, I had loads of Kune Kune's, they are adorable.
I do give my dogs Piriton tablets, when they have been working and running through stinging nettles, to stop the itching and stinging.

Might be worth just enquiring at your vets first just in case x

Hi

Spoke to vet and we are trying a couple of steroid shots first in tangent with antibiotics
Gave him one earlier and whether coincidence he does sound quite a bit better.

Hi again, Yes, my vet, told me to give them to my old  Labrador, as he was allergic to mould spores, so he had them through the autumn months, which made him a totally different dog, as his eyes would puff up, causing them to itch, he would then rub and rub so much making them bleed, which in turn caused them to ulcerate, so needed an operation!
in the end we went to a homeopath, who desensitized him, which then we didn't need the Piriton after that ! :excited:

Gosh thats sounds really painful for the poor lad.  Was it just one tablet for your labrador?
Got the impression that they shouldnt do any harm so might try as can't inject him every day, annoys the vet that they can't prescribe the longer lasting steroid to pigs.

Was considering going down the homepathic path if all else fails...
