Post by: harry on August 18, 2010, 05:38:11 pm
i got a brinsea 40 in the spring.... i had a load of turkey eggs that would not all fit in.... the brinsea instructions said to get more eggs in stand them upright, point down.... i did this and had a load all trying to hatch from the pointed end and a load die.... i will never load eggs upright again

I'm new to incubators too, but I was told the eggs should be upright with pointed end down so there was more room for airspace to grow. its a Brinsea 20 I'm using, only 4 out of 9 ducklings hatched so maybe you are right.  Are you laying them down sideways now?

I use Brinsea and a very good job they do.

It sounds like there was a problem with the eggs not the incubator. The chick was mal-presented and is a breeding fault.

I have only ever laid my eggs down flat. How can they be "turned" if they are not lying this way?

Just a thought Harry. Did you remove the spacer bars on day 18?

We've used a Brinsea 20 to hatch Turkey, Chicken, Duck, Pheasant and Quail eggs for the last few years, with pretty good results.

I always try to put them in with the pointed ends down (you get more in that way) and have never had any problems with them trying to hatch out of the pointed end.

The Brinsea kind of rolls/rocks from side to side so they eggs are moved rather that turned.
