what do you lot do to keep em off you my animals dont get locked in till dusk and thats just about the time all the midgies come out to feed on me. Its driving me to distaction thier in my eyes in my ears everywhere ive tied a few things with no joy, im surrounded by perfect breeding grounds for them boggy ground a resivoir and a river so i just wondered what you used.

i used to put Avon Skin So Soft oil spray on my pony, not sure how much it helped but it's supposed to be the thing to use for humans (was also a great mane & tail conditioner) sadly she died in Jan. I usually get bdly bitten by midges but not this summer, but the berry bug are worst i'e evr known, i'm covered in bites & one of my dogs has clusters of the bugs right above her eyes. geebee

Bounce tumbledrier sheets are supposed to work ;) Tucked in AND carried I believe.

take vitamin b1 tablets, we do it, and have found that we get bitten a lot less than other folk. i also have lavender growing in tubs on the patio, not sure if it really helps, but it's supposed to, also lemongrass.
avon skin so soft, as said, also some stuff called shoo! really works well. http://www.shoo.org/

What about a midgie net? One of my sons has just returned from a fishing trip to the far north and his midgie net kept him sane from the ravening hordes. Not the height of fashion but better than being covered in red spots and drained of blood by midgies.

Midgie nettted hats are great, my neighbour has one and I could have mugged her for it yesterday! We use Jungle formula, best thing we have found so far(when my OH does not take it in the car with him)

We don't have midgies in Angus. Lots of clegs and other flies but no midgies. Or magpies.

Try telling that to my fisherman husband!!
I've found AVon skin so soft to be a good repellent - we went on our honeymoon to the Isle of Skye - that was pretty midge infested!
Trouble is I had a really bad reaction to the Avon stuff! But I'm lucky - generally speaking the midgies leave me alone ;) (touch wood)

I like the Avon skin so soft too. It seems to work..
