				Hi
One of our pigs has a weepy eye/sore eye.
I cleaned all the gunk off this morning with good old clean water. It was just like a build up of sleep and her eye was stuck closed.
She's since given herself a face pack but her eye was open although looking a tad pink and possibly inflamed this afternoon.
I'm going to clean it again with water this evening but I am pondering giving her eye a saline wash.

I know it can't hurt but has anyone any other suggestions about what I should do?

 Cheers, Mo

 PS She's a GOS

One of the best treatments for a weepy eye in humans (even newborn babies) is to dilute a tiny bit of Johnson and Johnsons baby shampoo in lukewarm water and wipe around the eye and along the eyelids. Always use a new bit of paper towel or cotton wool for each wipe (so you're not re-wiping the infection back on) I've never tried it on a pig, but if it's okay for babies I wouldn't imagine it'd do any harm. Use quarter of a teaspoon of shampoo in a pint of water.
P.S. I'm a dispensing optician in another life, and learned about it at uni so it's not just a random idea  ;) ;D

Thanks HappyHippy - that's a useful tip and not only for the pig  :)
I've never in my life had cause to buy J&J baby shampoo (although I have used their other products for myself) I shall instruct Steve to buy some.

The eye looks a bit better this morning.

Mo hi hope she's feelin a little better by now but something that i've used previously with my dogs & chucks is plain old milk and that has always seemed to work, not sure about the science side of it but works for us. HTH

Milk! Thanks Mandy. I really should have thought of that although to be fair last time I heard of it being used was for washing snake venom out of a dogs eye  :-\

She was peeping at me through her sore eye at lunchtime, pinkness has gone down but still a little weepy. I shall bathe it again this evening I think.
